i got a bunch of electronics from a storage unit auction and figured i'd sell them on ebay. after a few sales i get hit with a bunch of restrictions. first i have to confirm my payment method, then i get a request to upload tracking ebay already has, then they demand receipts i obviously don't have. i told them this, and i asked what i should do instead. rather than actually communicate with me, they just restricted my account and held my funds. i guarantee you at least half the sellers on this site couldn't provide receipts for the stuff they're selling. now i have $1600 in limbo. what do i do? this is theft.

Looks like you were selling these as new.  eBay will want you to prove that these are legitimate, not counterfeit and that you actually have the right to sell them by the brand owner.  They are going to wait to see if they get any claims from buyers and hold the funds until everything clears out if you don't have the required invoices.  Electronics is a high scam/fraud category and eBay just wants to make sure what you sold is legitimate and buyers are happy.

It isn't theft, they are just protecting themselves and buyers.

Re: MC011

Hi, sorry this happened to you.

I know it must feel like theft, but on eBay we subject ourselves to their policies. It states clearly in the User Agreement that we will allow holds and restrictions as eBay sees fit to apply them. See link below:

"11. Holds and Restricted Funds

To protect eBay from risk of liability for your actions as a seller, eBay Payments Entities may restrict access to your funds as described in the Payments Terms of Use."

https://www.ebay.com/help/policies/member-behaviour-policies/user-agreement?id=4259#11

As for your held payments, eBay will continue the hold until the restriction is resolved and the account reinstated. If you cannot provide eBay with receipts, then be sure to supply them with the paperwork regarding the storage company at least. Below is a link to the Payment Holds policy. There is a portal on the policy page that might give you an idea of when your payment hold will be lifted. Good luck and hope this is resolved to your benefit.

the boxes were sealed so yeah, i sold them as new. i cannot get a receipt that lists the individual costs of items, the storage unit owner doesn't know what's in the unit. all i can do is give them what i paid for everything together, which is not what they want. they're trying to squeeze blood from a rock.
