Links to ebay store not allowed in description.

I understand why ebay does not allow links in the description but how hard can it be for ebay to find a safe, more noticeable way to make buyers aware of my store? Yes, I know about the store icon but it's tiny and elusive.

Any ideas?

Re: Links to ebay store not allowed in description.

@craigsfinds   Buyers who like to shop will find and select either the See more items or the Store link ... Buyers who just want the item they found in the first place will by it and move on.  Buyers familiar with eBay know how to find stores and those who are new will figure it out.

Hi, links to your store are allowed. See the policy below:

https://www.ebay.com/help/policies/listing-policies/links-policy?id=4248

“Links in a description are only allowed for the following:

  • Other eBay pages (eBay Messages, other eBay items, Stores pages, Follow Seller or Add to my Favorite Sellers)
  • Product videos
  • Freight shipping services approved by eBay
  • Legally required information
  • Credit for third-party providers”

Links to your store are allowed.

Links to see your other items are allowed.

They just need to be formatted correctly. This HTML  includes the store icon ... replace STORE NAME with your store

Re: Links to ebay store not allowed in description.

Thank you!

First I get a message from ebay saying some of my listing do not comply with ebay policy but when I click on the link to see the listings, it just takes me to ebay's home page.

Then I call customer service and I'm told the problem is the link to my store in the description. No links allowed she said.

I call again and I'm told the ebay message was a mistake and the link in my description is okay.

Wow! What a cluster foxtrot. How do I get all that time back? Oh well...

Re: Links to ebay store not allowed in description.

Looks like you have lots of opportunities under Manage My Store. I using the Categories and Store Header are great ways to get a little more links to your own stuff showing. (See what they look like in my items) Of course I agree with most other comments, in that... well... who actually READS the descriptions anyway? 🙂 But every little bit helps.

I looked at one of your listings with the store link in it.

You need to change the link so that it is https and that it has the new format of www.ebay.com/str/STORENAME

and the other formatting as I gave above.

To find listings with the bad formatting, you can use the tools at http://isdntek.com/ebaytools/

Those tools are written by one of our own longtime members and are approved by eBay.Screenshot_2020-02-08-12-42-26.png

Re: Links to ebay store not allowed in description.

I cut and pasted that HTML you gave me onto the HTML tab and but most of it shows up as HTML when I switch to standard. Any suggestions? I know very little about HTML format.

Btw, It's crazy that I could not find anything about this on the ebay page that talks about allowable links on the description. Thanks ebay! (sarcasm)

@craigsfinds

OMG … 10 lashes with a wet noodle for me … Im sorry!! When I copy/pasted and edited my store name out, I messed up the HTML.

This is correct … I added your store name (for anybody else, just change "craigsfinds" and "Craigs FInds" To your own store)

Thanks!

I commute your sentence from 10 lashes with a wet noodle to eating a bowl of Vietnamese noodle soup (PHO). : )

Re: Links to ebay store not allowed in description.

You need to change this in the HTML tab:

<a href="http://stores.ebay.com/craigsfinds" style="">

to this:

<a href="https://stores.ebay.com/craigsfinds" target="_blank">

That adds the s to http making it a secure link, and it adds the required target opening the link in a new tab/window.
