Just need to rant

Before actually making a business out of selling items on ebay, i would sell little things here and there- over the last 10 years... and I truly have no idea whats in the water this past year but it seems like the amount of :

-INR complaints (when tracking shows delivered)

-Neg feedbacks that make litterally no sense or are completely insane

-oblivious buyers not reading listing descriptions and then complaining

-buyers not understanding how SHIPPING ITSELF WORKS

and so many other things... is so effing draining that i think im gonna go on vacation for three weeks and allow sales the entire time. Like what the hell is going on? Every day its a new funds on hold request that makes absolutely no sense that I just have to wait out or entertain for 5 days till it can be closed.. Like if i have to explain one more time that I do not in fact personally deliver orders all over the globe .... im going to lose it.

Dang!  One of my best buyers is a powerbuyer with well over half a million feedback received. They've never left feedback, not once. They buy several hundred dollars from me at a time.  You could be missing out on a powerbuyer.

They are narcissistic, the second they are unhappy about something they have to burn someone else for it.

They don't give feedback, but enjoy watching THEIR feedback score go up.

They want every perk and convenience, yet never think of doing for others.

They buy items by the pictures, too much trouble to read the description.

They don't know anything about shipping because they are not givers, only receivers.

They are most of our customer base these days and more times than not are troublesome in some way.

I will take their money once, but when I discover that they don't leave feedback as a rule they go on my BBL.

Huh - that's pretty funny to read because I recall hearing the same complaints about MY generation - 'all give and no get!'  'Spoiled!' 'In MY day we were respectful!' etc. etc. - I was born in the 1950s. 😅

Well, IMO, boomers are the most spoiled, self-indulgent generation that ever existed in this country. They've run up the national debt, destroyed the environment, and were the main reason a lunatic was put in the White House in 2017.

I was born in 1956, so I've watched the behavior for a very long time.

Re: Just need to rant

I know that you're looking to rant and not asking for advice so you can ignore this post if you want to- but there is something I noticed on your for parts/not working listings that might help you avoid a few of the issues you've had.

You listed a computer as for parts/not working and in the description wrote- "Will not power on with charger. Could be battery or port hasn't been fully deconstructed to diagnose. Sold as is. Cosmetic condition is excellent."

The buyer complained that it had cracked casing, was missing main components including a hard drive and RAM and that the item was completely stripped.

The casing was cracked which could be seen in one photo- but you said cosmetic condition was "excellent" so both you for using the wrong descriptor and the buyer for not looking at photos were at fault on that one.

You sold the item for parts but neglected to say that the main parts were not included. Even if you're not a computer expert to know if things like RAM are missing- you can still take off the back to verify if it has a hard drive or not. If you do not want to take the time then you should be writing in your listings that computer may be missing essential parts such as the hard drive. "Not fully deconstructed" isn't enough to go on. "Did not open up computer to check parts- may be missing internal components including but not limited to the hard drive" is better. Put that in both the description and in the item condition box.

This is not me defending eBay or the buyer. This is me seeing something you could change with a single sentence to help yourself decrease the number of SNADs and negs. Some buyers still will not read the description- I get them, too and they're annoying. My best defense to avoid a repeat incident- since I can't control buyer behavior- has always been to look and see if I could make the listing any more clear. Sometimes I can and sometimes I can't. Sometimes buyers are just lemons and we'll get them no matter how good our listings are.

And who raised us?  The so-called "greatest generation".   I recall my old dad saying that he remembered getting the same mud slung at his generation as we did.  My thinking is that we all have a stake in this (we did have a balanced budget with surpluses in 1997 to 2000), but yeah, I'm not happy with my coevals, either (not all of whom have sold out, though) and do not think we have the moral high ground in any way.

I'm not surprised.

We get regularly posts on this board from sellers who use pictures that are not the actual item they are selling.

As stated, I don't completely count them out, I release them from my BBL at the end of the year.

If they come back, I'll take their money again and put them back on my BBL.

They have the chance to buy from me once a year.

I'm more concerned with principal than money I guess. A buyer that would spend a lot of money with me doesn't make up for them getting feedback on every transaction but not giving any.

They are a few buyers among millions who are doing it right, and I am doing okay without them.

I like to get credit for the transaction like they are. If they aren't giving it, they get to hinder my feedback score once a year......not 5 or 10 times.

Really....IMHO boomers are also responsible for natural organic food, Tom's of Maine toothpaste, Ben and Jerry's Ice Cream.  The Nestle's boycott because of bad water where the dry formulas were being pushed.  Anti-animal testing for makeup, etc.  Anti-war, ie Get Out Of Vietnam. Recycle, re-do, re-use, repurpose.   Back to the land, a movement that is still popular.  Grow your own, handcrafts, etc. We are not all Bill Gates.

And the 'lunatic' was put there by the Electoral College, not by a majority of the people.  He LOST the popular vote.  I do agree with your name for him.

This preoccupation with feedback seems like a lost-cause battle, though - it has long since slipped away in importance and most people (something like 70%) don't even bother to give it, pretty much internet wide.  It seems like an exercise doomed to frustration.
