Items “Promoted” without me knowing… Is anyone else experiencing this?

Is anyone else experiencing this?

I was recently away and put on the “time away” function.

The day that it ended (automatically) I saw a massive spike in sales the following morning.

I didn’t understand why but was happy that I was selling!

I just went to look at some of my listings on my laptop (outside of the eBay app) and I saw green “promoted” signs under every single item!!!!!

When I called and asked what was going on they said they saw that they were initially listed with being promoted… which is literally impossible since some are older listings that re-listed themselves and were def not promoted!

I want to know if I’m the only one experiencing this or if this was a glitch and it happened to others as well?

I’m assuming because of lawsuits and consumer rights eBay wouldn't just apply this automatically to our listings but I have no clue as to how it could have happened and want to make sure this is never allowed to happen again!

If a buyer clicks on one of your items that was promoted, then clicks on another that was not and chooses to buy it, you will be charged the 'promoted' rate.

Relisting does nothing to change anything.

You need to check your 'business policies' (hover over your name top left, drop down appears, click 'Account Settings') and see what is and is not being promoted.

I understand how the promoted listings work, which is exactly why I never use them lol.

The listings say the promotion started in September of 2019…. Not one of the listings I have up right now was a listing back in 2019…

I want to see if this was just a glitch on my account or whether this was happening to others as well. 🤔

When I went to check what was being promoted, it showed “all”, which I never did, when I tried to end the campaign it kept giving me an error, when I tried to click and delete one by one it did but only after several tries. I have 404 listings. I’m really worried about things selling and me now owing these fees. They’ve already taken so much over 4 days.

This happened to me as well, I have NEVER promoted an item yet somehow my item was magically promoted and I was charged a large fee for it. I complained and they refunded the fee, but OH BOY am I going to have to look out for that now EVERY time I sell something on ebay. =/

The opposite occurred with some of my listings. I noticed all sales for 2 wks. were non-promo; in checking, several pages had the promo tuned off. As I promote all listings at 2%, I now check each page, as a new campaign I did not start is shown.

I just had this happen to me and supposed to be getting a credit. I have never and will never do a "promoted" listing. The Ebay Rep blamed it on the "Sell Similar" listing method....which makes no sense as I do that on every listing. If that were the case, that is as shady as what Amazon just got nailed for on the Prime memberships....

What rate were they promoted at?

Hopefully the bogus promotion was a only if it sells one and not a pay per click.

What, that is crazy because just the other day several of my items took off into the next room over, had their pictures taken, then proceeded to list themselves! Unbelievable.

This gives me hope that once I complain they’ll actually do something: did you have to list every item to them or they just knew

Ok I thought I was going nuts because I know I don’t randomly click things and I wouldn’t have ever had them promoted! I hate that option

Ok so hopefully when I call today this is a known issue: it wasn’t just me that it happened to!

12-15%!!! And I sold a lot of 100.00 + items!
