Item specifics

I have had to start using the new form for item specifics.  I find it very frustrating that I can't enter my own description that it calls for and just hit return to have it stick.  Ie: mandarin collar.    I have to spend time searching for the way to enter my choice.  Is there a reason that they had to 'reinvent the wheel' to get my input to stick??? A simple enter to make this happen would save me a lot of time.  Sometimes I think the people that make these updates have never actually listed an item on Ebay.  Ugh!!!

Re: Item specifics

You can enter your own description in most of the item specifics, but be sure to click on the plus sign in a circle to save it.

Re: Item specifics

I know you didn't ask, but in general, it's NOT a good idea to use your own.  If you don't use the options from the drop downs (I'm a clothing seller, I know they're not perfect), it hurts your SEO b/c your items won't be found when a buyer does a left side drill down search b/c their only choices are the variables in the drop down.   You always want to go with a variable from eBay's drop down.

The only benefit to doing so is as a CYA, but since buyers win all SNADs, fake or not, it doesn't really help much.

Re: Item specifics

Agreed; however, I'll just add that, as a buyer, I hate having to use all those item specifics. For one thing, I have to rely on the sellers having completed them correctly (as you implied).

The new search software is the main reason I don't shop on eBay anymore (unless it's for one specific item I can search for like a book title).

So, to the OP, complete as many of those item specifics as you can just as accurately as you can. It will be to your benefit in the long run.

Re: Item specifics

I post something and then click similar post to the item I posted...Then I delete all photos of this old post and enter new item with new photos and description(if different) for sale. This way I don't have to enter all the new stuff. Just the photos and cost and description(if different). I skip all the stuff about mailing and such. Takes a little time to under the format but once you do it enough time it's like real fast.

Re: Item specifics

You have to remember to click the PLUS.   Again, another programming stupidity on ebay's part.   If you write down that the color is LIME GREEN in the blank, why the extra step to click the + (plus sign).    The system should take whatever the seller writes in the box.

Re: Item specifics

Seems to work sometimes doing that but not others.   I mean it is obvious you are changing the thing, why not just have  it hit 'enter'?

Re: Item specifics

Interesting.  I never thought of that.  So I guess just pick one even if it doesn't exactly fit?

Re: Item specifics

If you hit the plus it will be saved and will be there if you need it again.

As for just choosing something that isn't quite right, I sure would not do that. Better left blank unless it is something required...in my opinion at least

Yes.  It is to YOUR advantage to do so, in left side drill down searches.   Always been like this, from day 1 of IS's.  Will save you a ton of time too.  There's absolutely no reason to enter all those details you are entering in IS's, as IS's are not really for the buyer & most buyers do not read them.  They are for SEO.

I learned how few buyers read IS's about 5 years ago when I decided to put measurements in the IS's, by adding Custom fields.  My ASQ's increased easily by 10x.  All of them asking for measurements.  I would explain to check IS's & NO ONE knew what I was talking about.  I further told them the section of the listing where IS's were.  A few people found it & said they always skipped over all that.  A LOT of people couldn't find the IS section despite 3-4 back & forths.   Yes, I'm sure there are some savvy buyers who read them, but the vast majority do not.
