I recently sold an brand new authentic Louis Vuitton suitcase, but it failed authentication because it was listed in the wrong category. However, the authenticator still sent it to the buyer. The buyer then opened a case claiming the suitcase was fake and returned a counterfeit suitcase after it had passed through the return authentication process.
Has anyone else encountered a similar problem? I could really use some advice on how to effectively fight this case.
TIA.

Do you have any screenshots of the communications?

Can you please supply pictures of the suitcase you deem as counterfeit?

I cannot fathom why eBay's authenticator would send the item to the buyer after it failed authentication.
That aside ...
If this had been a routine eBay case, you would stand almost no chance of winning because eBay could not verify what was returned.
I cannot see anything about your case that changes that.

Yes I do see the LV suitcase OP sold but they stated they received a counterfeit suitcase back from buyer, that's the one I want to see.
This whole thing is bizarre.

Here is a screenshot of the tracking information on eBay. The authenticator stated that the item was miscategorized and wasn't able to authenticate the suitcase, but it was still shipped to the buyer.

This is the screenshot of the return. It's odd that the authenticator did not receive the return tracking information from the buyer.

I acknowledge that I may not have a chance of winning this case, but I'm hoping to find someone who has dealt with a similar issue involving an eBay authenticator and successfully reversed the case.
I believe eBay should take responsibility since the suitcase was not authenticated and should not have been sent to the buyer.

Have you reached out to the Facebook/eBay group yet? That really does not make any sense. Did you have any pictures of the returned item as @silverstatetreasureboxes was asking for? We can see the pictures of the item you sold (from your sold listing) but can not see the returned item.
Very strange

Sorry, I don't have the pictures yet. I will post them as soon as I get back home next week.

Which Facebook/eBay group are you referring to? Is it the eBay seller group helping each other?
Thanks,

Thanks,
No it is a facebook/eBay group (customer service) that many have used with issues. Not sure if they can help you or not but it is worth a try. I don't have a link handy but i will dig to see if i can find it. There should be many users that have the link.

It's this one: https://www.facebook.com/ebay
Up until a little while ago, there was a separate eBay for Business page, which is where we would usually direct sellers to find eBay assistance, but that Business account has now been folded into this one.

Here are the pictures from the buyer. As you can see, the suitcase does not hold shape and looks used.
