Item Specifics

I know this has been covered many times by many sellers. I had to just blow off some stem. Just listed some 20 plus items of course to have them immediately show up as requiring more recommended item specifics. It would be nice if the individuals who developed these item specific lists had just a vague idea about the items the in the category they are addressing. In my case just one small example Year manufactured then  you are provided specific periods of time. Of course most items do not fit in their neat little time frame so you can never fill this out. Of course their are more and depending on what you sell you may even have more headaches than me. Also how many of these items specifics do NOTHING to help the buyer in their purchase. Sorry just had to rant a little

Requiring and recommended are different words with different meanings.

If you don't fill in a Required field, eBay will not post the listing.

If you don't fill in a Recommended field, eBay will post but nag and nag and nag.

You can click on the "Don't remind me again" in the Required field to stop the nagging.

Thank you I am aware of the difference. That still does not address the heart of my issue. What do they do to help the buyer? Also unless I am wrong you do not get to click "Don't remind me again" until after you have listed the item more wasted time and effort.

I agree its a very dumb thing someone in ebay decided to add to keep their job. It does

nothing to help the sale as everything the potential buyer sees is in the listing already. Big waste of time.

Are you SURE you are "required" to fill on all those specifics?

They actually do a whole lot to help a buyer. Especially in the oversaturated categories. Buyers are able to see only the stuff they want instead of all the useless stuff no one fills in on the specifics to get the buyers to their stuff.

One of the item specifics glitch (or bad programming) that drives me nuts is when listing a Set of 2 or 4 or 6 the listing form allows you to check No in the Is This A Bundle? box only to find the listing in my Item Specifics Recommended queue in Seller Hub.  I am supposed to fill in a box that does NOT show in the listing form with the number of items in the Bundle.

First of all, it's not a bundle of various items.  (See the bundle question mark on the listing form).  I sell Sets of identical towels or plates or bowls or napkins.    

If I select No to the bundle question on the listing form why do I then have to describe what's in the bundle on the back end?  Makes no sense.  But I fill it in anyway with the number of items in the Set to make eBay happy.

Once again I am addressing the bulk of the type of items I sell. As stated I do not have a problem with item specifics. I would just like to see more thought put into what item specifics should be included in In a category so that they address a buyers needs.

But eBay doesn't require Recommended IS.

They recommend Recommended IS.

You can leave all of those out if you like.

But do fill in the REQUIRED IS if you want to list your item.

You can check the "don't show me this again" button for the rest.

I have no idea, because how I search eBay as a buyer represents only one 150-millionth of active buyers.

For instance, in Vinyl Records I primarily use the item specifics to search by Sleeve Grade and Country/Region of Manufacture. But I suspect that most other record collectors don't use those as their primary search criteria.

Hi, i disagree.
Item Specifics primary importance has to do with ranking results for your item on Cassini, Google, Bing et al. IS help determine a listing’s ranking in Search results.

Getting one’s listing  prominently included in Search engines’ results encourages critical organic traffic. Think about how having your listing in the top Google spot on their first page can benefit your sales (as opposed to not appearing on Google).

Plenty of the item specifics are just not worth filling out because they aren't things people search for or just set you up for an item not as described if you get one wrong. 

Trading cards have 15-20 recommended specifics (depending on type), which is ridiculous for items that have extremely exact searchable titles and the overwhelming majority of which are under $5 in price.

Ebay. If I am looking for something that comes up with 1,000's of items I can go to the left of the page and narrow it down to less than 100. Those sellers who chose to give the specifics I was looking for gets my view.
