Buyer opened an "item not received" dispute today; however, tracking (label created w/ eBay) shows delivery a few days ago. Buyer doesn't dispute tracking but simply claims he's "looked everywhere and can't find it" and wants us to send him a replacement.
Is there some sort of protection for this? We shouldn't have to lose the cost of another item and re-shipping.

Ebay will absolutely cover you for an INR if you have confirmation of delivery. This is the purpose of delivery confirmation.
Respond IN THE CASE with the tracking number. Copy and paste the tracking information. Submit and wait. The case will close in your favor, no refund will be given.
What you do for the buyer is completely up to you.

You hear/see it on these boards so often...
"Ebay has no seller protection."
Well, it seems like they do after all. 😃

Don't trust that eBay will be able to see that the Delivery is confirmed.
Do it yourself.

Reminds me of a similar incident years ago.
Buyer messages me, she cannot find the book I sent her, even though it shows delivered.
She says she thinks someone stole it.
I write back and tell her that I have contacted her post office and requested a USPS investigation into possible mail theft.
Lo and behold, she found the missing book a half hour later.

Except for? when buyer opens a ChargeBack with Credit Card (which many do later after losing)- does bank accept 'tracking shows delivered'??
They should. Will they is another story. If they don't, Ebay should cover it since it's an INR with a delivered status.

When your net eBay income is $250 a month, you don't worry that much about non-delivery fraud.
What a strange thing to say.
Because you feel I don't make enough on ebay, I shouldn't point out to the op that ebay does in fact have some seller protections, like in this case where the buyer files a INR and the tracking shows delivered.
BTW as a part time seller, my current income for the last 31 days is $2,471.26.
What is the threshold, how much more do I need to make before I can worry about non-delivery fraud?

Not on you.
He needs to get in touch with the mail/package carrier to figure out what happened.
Don't send another or refund. Don't do it.

Yes you will be fine. Just update the INR with the tracking number.
I would encourage you to really study the MBG policy. It drives a lot of things for both buyers and sellers. It is one of the most important policies for sellers to understand. It is a long one so it will take a bit, but I can't stress how important it is to help keep you out of trouble.
