Hello, I recently sold a brand new Bulova watch to a buyer who says it arrived used and malfunctioning. Problem is, the watch was sent directly from Jared to the buyer so there is no possibility of me scamming him. I checked his feedback, and most of the sellers he bought from are now deleted. This is why I lost my last account-ppl saying they never received an order and such. What do you vets think? I think I'm done with ebay for good. He attached a pic of the supposed watch that Jared sent him. I'm working with them to determine what happened btw.

See below:

Yes received watch however there is a problem, this is not the watch I purchased. First, the watch is not new. It was sent in a ziplock bag not in a display box and was shipped without any packing material inside the box. Second, the chronograph features do not work. The two buttons that control the 30 second and 60 min timers don't work. Finally, what was shown on Ebay is not the watch that was sent. There are markings on the back of the watch that are not consistent with pictures provided for the item. I have attached a photo of the back of the watch sent and there are three distinct differences. (a) High performance quartz vs Ultra High performance quartz, (b) water resist vs water resistance, (c) under the Bulova logo at the top it says Bulova vs Bulova Acutron. All of these red flags make me question the authenticity of the watch sold and again this is not the watch that was shown on Ebay that I purchased. I am prepared to return the watch and would like it replaced with a new, genuine Bulova watch as shown and described. I can ship it back or return it to one of your Jared Jewelry stores nearby and exchange it. Please advise. If you want me to return it please provide a return shipping label. Hopefully, we can work this out and I don't have to make a claim against Ebay or Pay-Pal. Thanks

No.  Sounds to me like you are drop shipping items which you have never seen either, only in pictures.   I always have the item I list in my possession.  You have no way to prove what you did or did not send beyond a photo.....actually every ebay transaction works that way.

"You know what they say about assuming....."

--------

But eBay will most certainly

believe the buyer's assumption.... if they file a Not As Described.

It’s entirely possible the buyer received a used watch. You don’t have a leg to stand on since you never saw the watch yourself. Approve the return. You won’t win this.

That's one problem with dropshipping, you never know what they will ship out.

Since you never seen the watch, you don't know what the buyer received.

If he opens a claim, there's not much you can do but accept the return and refund once you get something back.

Have a great day.

I'm not sure honestly...

To me, it sounds like the buyer is a seasoned pro scammer, and realized the OP was drop shipping and appears to know EXACTLY how to game the system. He will of course return to you his old, broken watch and keep the new one that was shipped to him.

Sad that these professional scamming criminals are allowed to thrive on ebay. Makes me very sad and upset to read these threads day after day. Smiley Sad

Actually, upon further inspection, I saw what appears to be the model number in the picture you received from the buyer and the picture in your listing match. (C977934)

Your listing appears to be a stock photo though which shows a "00000000" serial number and the buyers watch does have what appears to be a realistic serial number.

Maybe he did get sent a used watch by some mistake?? I mean I suppose it's entirely possible he could have the same exact model, and it is possible he could want the exact same watch again to renew his broken one... but I dunno... for some reason it just feels off to me that he'd pull a scam for the exact same one.

Why not do this with a Rolex or some watch worth $1,000+? I mean $300+ is nothing to sneeze at, just saying there maybe is a possibility he's not a scammer?

Who really knows though? Smiley Sad

Ya' know, if you 'lost' one account for complaints, you can't ...  well ...  you know.

Other than that, I have no idea who Jared is, but maybe you can ask him what he sent.

OK kids, time to get the Dodge loaded up again. I hear 'Poppy's By the Tree' calling. This trip might be a long one too.

Jared is a large Jewelry store chain. They are part of Sterling which, also, owns Kay Jewelers. I know they sell Rolex and Tag Heur. I wasn't aware they did drop shipping. All their jewelry is always boxed. I'm going to see if I can get a hold of my brother who is a GM (training for DM) for the company. (I know their really busy this weekend) and see if this would even be possible.

Exactly what I was thinking. There is no way Jared would have shipped a watch the way the OP's buyer claimed it was.  Sounds like the OP landed a professional scammer.  Unfortunately ebay will take the side of the scammer, which should surprise no one.

I, also, gave my brother a watch I found at an estate sale. The person thought it was junk because it had turned pink. Turns out it was a solid gold watch. I gave it to my brother to see if it could even be repaired. Jared sent it out to Movado who now owns that watch company now. When I got it back it was as if it came off the showroom  floor and it was in a box, working perfectly.

Wow, that's an awesome story!

May I ask what the value turned out to be? It's okay if you don't wan't to divulge, but I can only imagine!
