So a buyer bought an item, complained about it. I immediately told them to return for refund. But they don't want to do that and asked for other options and started asking about other colors of the same item. I don't know if they were fishing for freebies or not, but chances are they won't like the other colors too. Since I'm not going to waste more return shipping cost money than I already am (free returns), I just tell them it's best to just return for refund and they can buy a similar item from any seller afterwards.
Buyer leaves me a negative calling me a waste of time... some other generic comments... but ends it with a middle finger emoji. Does that count as profanity under ebay's rules since it technically isn't a word? Can I get this negative removed?

I would think the insulting hand gesture would count under profanity. Be sure to tell the person you talk to what the gesture means, other cultures may not understand the insult.
I suspect that this particular gesture is probably understood almost everywhere.
Using that gesture can get you thrown in jail in the Middle East.

To paraphrase a recent eBay promotional campaign: That would be kick- ass.

I had the police called on me for this here in the good ole USA. I was in my twenties and used it at a guy staring at me through my workplace window. The police showed up and told me not to do that.

Thank you, I didn't know that!

If this is true will the negative feedback still be shown but be blank (no comments)? I would much rather have both my and the buyer's comments shown to accompany the negative than to have it blank (so any buyer won't have to wonder what I did to get the negative). I feel my reply "Sorry. Return/refund was immediately offered but I can't agree to more than that" explains myself just fine.
With that said, if an agent agrees it's profanity but will only remove the comments, can I ask them to NOT remove the comments and pretend I never called them about this? Or are they forced to remove it under ebay policy?
It will say this comment was removed by eBay
i don’t know if you call if they will not remove it if you ask them not to or not
Few years back on the boards here there was a woman from somewhere in the Far East if I recall who tried to get an insulting and demeaningly vulgar feedback that ended with "... you prostitute!" removed for MONTHS but eBay dug in and refused.

Yea, it'd be funny if I called ebay about this and they end up doing nothing except calling the buyer and telling them "Don't do that. Okay now, run along."
