I have an item that is New not used with some tags still on it.
It has the brand name tag, tag with size chart and a tag with size and bar code underneath but the price was cut off.
Should i list it as nwt or nwot? and is there a point to keep the size tag with bar code attached?

Don't they remove the price when someone buys it and says it is for a gift.
So if the price is removed, someone bought and returned it.
Someone may be really picky so I tend to undersell a bit.
New without tags - mention just price tag is cut off will cover you nicely.

Why would it be NWOT if there are TAGS on the item..makes no sense. Of course it’s NWT..anyone saying different is strongly confused.

"Should i list it as nwt or nwot?"
I would list it as NWT. I always include a photo of the tags as well.
"is there a point to keep the size tag with bar code attached?"
Yes, you want the item to be as close to new as possible. Is there a point to removing the size tag with bar code attached?

As I explained, if it was brand new, never sold, why was the price cut off.
That is usually done when someone buys and returns it.
When I go through the racks and see that I avoid it.
A very picky person might not consider a returned item that was tried on, maybe worn (yes women are known to place tags inside and tape them down) new with tags.
So to be extra extra careful I would list new without tags, as half of a tag is missing.

I've got to agree. The price tag is added by the store but the ones left sound like manufacturer tags.

Question - do you consider a returned item - new?

I do if the tags are still on it. Renter shenanigans notwithstanding, I don't much care if I'm shopping and the tags are still on something I'm interested in buying. It's not like anything is going to be immediately worn before washing anyway.
I've probably got a dozen pairs of jeans in my closet with all the tags on them. I've never worn them so if I returned them, what would prevent them from being sold as new? Because they left the store at some point?
People do some pretty awful things to clothes in a dressing room without them ever leaving the store...

But that is the rub as half of one tag is missing.

Several threads debating the definition of “New” this weekend! Some are far pickier than others regarding the nuances of new. For me as a buyer, any sealed item or item with at least some tags attached is “new,” because most likely, no one else has used/worn it. I’m one who, as a buyer, has a lenient definition of “new.” As a seller...we have to protect ourselves from the pickiest of picky people, unfortunately.
If ONLY the price portion is missing, most likely this is was a gift that wasn’t worn, nor returned. So it’s preowned. But still, it’s unworn. Technically, it’s neither new, nor used. “New Other” applies, but I can never find that as a listing option.

To me, the brand, size, washing instructions tags are for more important. I don't think a missing price tag is enough to qualify it for "without tags" if it has other tags.

Is it though? It's just the store price tag missing. Haven't you ever had to bring up an identical item to the cashier because the one in the size you want is missing the price tag? Happens a lot. And having worked at Macy's for many years, there were plenty that came in shipment with manufacturer's tags but without the price tags since the warehouse missed them.
Yes, cut tags show it was purchased (likely as a gift) and then returned. So? Of those dozen or so previously mentioned jeans in my closet, none have ever been on my body since I hate trying on clothes in stores. I buy my size but when I go to wear them if they don't fit they get returned. No different if I tried them on before purchase except they were tried outside of the "sterile" store environment. Which is far from sterile.
I know you have a thing about cleanliness which is totally fine. You have standards for yourself and your family to which you strictly adhere. Others aren't as strict and some even <gasp> wear things directly without washing.
I haven't heard about anyone dying from doing that yet.

I know a lot of people will disagree, but unless you bought the item new from a store it is not new.
Buying an item at Goodwill or yard sales with tags, doesn't make the item new.
I would list it as used with some tags.

Yes, we all have standards, but you are not listing based on your standards but to a potential buyer's standards.
And that is why I would gear it to the pickiest one.
As for washing clothes before wearing it, I always did it because many times clothes bleed, so if you wash it first, less ofa chance of wearing the item and having it do so all over you.
Also for children all those flame retardant chemicals, for my grandchildren I wash them several times to get some of it out.

Exactly. Unless you are the first owner, then no it is not new.
