Is ebay still dead in 2024

Yes. Although certain answers on google ..... will say otherwise. Facebook marketplace is still the number one platform, aside from selling locally. Now if your just selling Chinese knockoffs ,then ebay may still be an ok place to sell. But for an individual, part time seller, or hustler, its the absolute worst. ebays numbers have ONLY went down consistently for around 5 years now, maybe longer. But I'm sure that if you're searching this,it's because you've noticed your 0 views and 0 sales, right? Personally I barely list anything on the platform anymore, there's really no use. Especially when ebay is not even close to being the #1 selling platform. Things like Etsy and Facebook marketplace are killing it,where as ebay.... Is being killed. But it's mostly the fault of the people who run ebay, not yours. Although people will tell you that's it's my fault,or you're fault,it's clearly not. Nobody likes ebay anymore, and ebay doesn't like you. Items that sold in the hundreds daily, will never get views or sales, especially if you don't use promoted listings. But they sell locally and on other platforms constantly. My listed video game console gets 4 views in a month on ebay, while it gets sold immediately in person. Daily. But years ago on ebay,it would also sell immediately. People don't suddenly dislike video games,or retro games,or consoles. My pictures aren't suddenly horrible, and my pricing is still spot on. So how is this even happening? Because ebay is a dead platform. You're better off having a yard sale or getting  a booth at a local vendor mall. That's how I've been mainly selling for the last year and its great. Not everyone has that luxury though. But yes ,don't worry, ebay is still dying it's slow death. It's going down with disney ,AAA gaming, "mainstream" news, streaming services. All things that you probably think are making millions right? Wrong, some of them are infact losing billions.(Not all companies or games are this bad,I understand) Yes,these companies and platforms are not successful. Meaning no,they do not make money. This includes ebay. Thats not to say that money isn't coming in to these companies,it's to say that they are bleeding more than they have, struggling to stay above a yearly loss or worse numbers than the year before(consistently),and failing miserably. Even twitch, the largest video/gaming platform where some of their users make millions each years. They are losing money, even though video games are a 150 billion dollar industry. Disney lost billions last year, and the year before, and the year before...Numbers have tanked, and are still consistently tanking here at ebay. Woke is broke, dinosaurs are out of touch, and scammy practices are being out more often and more swiftly today. Nobody is falling for the **bleep** anymore and people are smarter than these ceos think. Google lies about these things, news outlets regurgitate the same garbage, and ebay trolls will be here to tell you otherwise.

Another feedback user that has bragging rights about their feedback. Dude you're making on average of $15.00 sales and your sales consist of $10-$25. After fees you're making barely anything. Stop with the show boating. One of my items is your whole page listing. I required only to shipped 1 item and how many how many items required to shipped and do massive work on listing and packing

You got me there.

I can't argue with that.

I sell $10 to $25 items.

Look at the title of this thread. Ebay is not dead.

I sold $50 so far today.

BTW I am a part time seller. Ebay isn't my full time job. If that matters.

Re: Is ebay still dead in 2024

I agree facebook is definetly not the #1 platform. If your selling local it takes forever to sell anything unless your giving it away. and if you ship  the whole process of getting paid and dealing with a return is not worth the aggravation.

Wait are you saying Facebook manages the payments and returns on shipped items?  Are you SURE about that, because I certainly have never heard of it.

Re: Is ebay still dead in 2024

As long as we have scammer both sellers and buyers it will always be a bad venue. What makes it worse is when the venue does little to no investigation and relys only on the data presented to them by the scammers you will always be scammed. Sellers using false tracking information, sellers sending empty packages sellers send broken items, etc... then there's the buyers returned items like rocks or empty boxes, returning items they used in place of new items. These venues waste no money to investigate yet falsely advetise you are safe all just to get your money. Billions of dollars is lost on these venues and the feds pretty much never go after these including the venue who enables these scammers. Why the feds? Its because using the internet which is a interstate transaction, but today as most of these venues allows international sales of items feds dont always want to get involved in petty international crimes.

Because these venues use their own (which very little) investigative techiques they lack the ability to give a fair outcome to more than 50% of their users. If you think phone calls are a scam just remember when using a venue that offers international sale both seller and buyer it opens doors to more scams.

Re: Is ebay still dead in 2024

Facebook is a complete waste of time here whether as a buyer or seller. I've messaged over a 100 ads and gotten only two replies, one buyer was nuts and wanted to meet at someplace 50 miles away, the other actually made a sale.

As a seller, I get very few emails, out of the few I get most are data miners looking to get phone numbers and addresses. Not a single thing has sold there in 5 years.

CL is still the most productive and that's been dead too but it outpaces eBay by double.

The best part is its cash.

Sales here have been dead for over two years now, they took a bad downturn late in 2021 and have been dropping ever since. Jan and Feb were a bit better than the year before but this summer is all but completely dead.

At work, with 6 accounts and 6k items there are no watchers, no bids in 19 days now. The items span many categories.

I cannot speak to returns on FB as I've not had any.

But to answer your other question, yes.  FB uses PayPal and manages all transactions involving shipped items that are processed through the FB framework.

I started selling on FB Marketplace about 10 months ago.  I have had three types of orders:

1.  Local pickup -- no FB or PayPal involvement.

2.  Shipping to a customer with whom I work out payment arrangements outside the FB / PayPal framework.   They see my item (which is not marked for shipping) and ask if I will ship; I tell them I take Venmo, I refer them to my glowing reviews, and they come back and tell me they are ready to pay.  They pay, and I ship next day.   We stay in touch over FB messenger to make sure everything arrives safely.   Its a good way to build a relationship with a customer.

3.  Orders processed through the FB / Paypal framework.  Customer sees your item, which you have marked to be shipped, and clicks a FB button to purchase it.   FB takes a 10% cut and manages the payments to your bank account.   You get paid a week to ten days after delivery is confirmed.

I've concluded about a dozen of the last type of orders, and all have gone flawlessly.   You do have to wait a while to get paid.  About 4 out of 5 of my buyers leave a review.  And they are happy to do so.

Re: Is ebay still dead in 2024

Yes, eBay for me has grinded to a halt. Worst year ever. Ridiculous. Over-the-top horrible. One sale a month for the last 4 months. Only reason I am still on this platform is because I have inherited coins, sports cards, old post cards and the like which 'should' sell ok, but who knows? This is not the eBay of 2015, 2010, and certainly not 2000.  Too many online selling venues, too few buyers, and changing buyer demographics. I will use this situation as a tax write off, only positive thing I can do.  Good luck to you all and peace out!

Re: Is ebay still dead in 2024

Thank you for adding punctuation.    Now your post is barely readable, versus totally incomprehensible.

If your inventory available on eBay is reflective of what you generally sell here, I can certainly see why you are bitter.

Meantime, please consider the following:

"Nobody likes ebay anymore, and ebay doesn't like you."

I LOVE eBay and eBay definitely loves me; they send me about $1 grand every five to seven days.  If that's not ❤️, what is?

--My listed video game console gets 4 views in a month on ebay, while it gets sold immediately in person.

Well of course it does.  Reverse roles and put yourself in the buyer's shoes.   See the difference?

--ebay is a dead platform...don't worry, ebay is still dying it's slow death

See my entry above about ❤️.

My pictures aren't suddenly horrible, and my pricing is still spot on.

Picture quality and pricing judgments are in the eye of the beholder.  If you were a dinosaur like me you'd possess that wisdom.

--dinosaurs are out of touch...

As a dinosaur I take great exception to that statement!!

Google lies about these things, news outlets regurgitate the same garbage, and ebay trolls will be here to tell you otherwise.

When a person casts blame on everything around them and fails to display even a scintilla of introspection, then it's pretty clear where the deficit lies.   (A famous dinosaur)

Re: Is ebay still dead in 2024

I have had a slow month as of August 20th, though, that is not uncommon for August.

Aside from this month the last 8 months have been consistently good for me.

I have ended most, if not all, listings of womans designer clothing and shoes as those categories are saturated and no longer sell for me .

In recent years I have tried other platforms but still prefer Ebay for many reasons.

You have to be willing to do the research.  What is selling and what is not?  If it's not selling then try selling something else... it's not that complex.

Re: Is ebay still dead in 2024

Not according to ebay a release to stockholders sales were good , not according to my sales which are way up this year. Generally it's what your selling is the problem, if have an item that is price right it will eventually sale. I own a lamp shop and I can tell you that lamp you have for $240 would maybe sell for $90 on a good day.

With all due respect ... ebay is not doing as well or YOU are not doing as well?

There's a big difference.

Not everyone's sales are down.

I just had 2 outstanding sales days Thursday and Friday.

Re: Is ebay still dead in 2024

There was some chatter for a while about folks not getting their monies from marketplace after selling and shipping(not local sales). Most of my vintage audio/stereo receives lowball offers, probably other resellers. Of the licensed products I sell (NFL, MLB, NHL, NCAA). rarely get views. Seems the buyers are interested in local household items for cheap.  In the early days of Craigslist, the assumption was it’s all scams. Now the Craigslist crowd and general public say the same of fb marketplace.  I rarely sell on fb marketplace or Craigslist. Generally I buy there and resell on eBay. Though, the specific “groups” on fb marketplace have shown more activity. Vintage audio groups, especially when manufacturer specific.
