I must have received 3-5 messages from positive standing eBay users in the past 3 days that have told me that when trying to purchase an item from me on Buy It Now it was not letting them complete the transactions, while at the same time I have been getting some orders as well?
Furthermore they are being instructed to contact both eBay and PayPal and are being told by BOTH that they have no idea what the glitch is. In one case 2 eBay reps suggested that I invoice them directly, which I did, and the next day I received a WARNING from eBay not to ever do that again-when I only did it because they instructed me to!
Any help is appreciated!

I know I had issues trying to buy a few days ago and gave up. I managed to finally make one purchase but the other I'm just not going to worry about it. Not worth the aggravation. I was being sent on an endless loop of having to log into PayPal I would log in once and it would take me right back to the log in screen like nothing happened. Log in a second time where it would also make me prove I'm not a robot but half the Pics to select were off the side of the screen and then id get an error message sorry we cannot process your had Yada blah blah. What was really weird was on a few tries it wouldn't even give me a chance to log in even once. I'd go to type in my log in info and in the middle of typing it would jump to we cannot process

brian@ebay I know the most difficult problems to solve are those sporadic ones, but we are unable to do anything to help when the error messages are as vague as these are, like "We cannot process your payment. Try again or select another payment method." If they could be more specific in these messages by providing error codes, etc. we could help narrow it down by reporting to CS the exact problem the buyer is experiencing. It's frustrating for both the buyers and the sellers to see a message that explains absolutely nothing that points to the actual problem, so the buyers in their frustration move on and buy from another site.
I definitely agree. The code as currently implemented on the website does not seem to be letting error codes from down below get reported up to the calling routines, instead returning a generic catch-all error that does not give any useful clues to anyone. Thus in the case of an intermittent error that only affects some users, or only occurs part of the time, and cannot be reproduced reliably in the lab, you end up trying to solve a problem with only a vague set of symptoms.
That's not to say that someone has to come up with a user-friendly error message for every single error condition that could possibly be returned. All you need is the returned status itself, displayed with a message reading something like "When reporting this problem to us, please quote error code 00401035," for example.
With an actual error code reported from the field, your programmers get a much better starting point, and in the case of problems that seem to never get fixed, it will at least give the user something specific for Googling purposes, in case there's a known workaround out there that other users already found.

Thank you Brian-yes Tyler certainly communicated the problem with me and offered some possible fixes on my end. He assured me that the problem is certainly known about and is being worked on-which is absolutely all I can ask-so thanks!

Ayup, that'll take me back. There's a reason why my error code example has eight digits, and looks vaguely like something Adobe Acrobat would barf up on a bad day. ![]()

I'm wondering how widespread this issue has been and for how long it's been going on ? Certainly it would explain the sudden drop in sales many sellers have been experiencing . I purchased an item the other day and the seller couldn't ship it because Pay Pal was messed up . She was finally able to receive the payment yesterday after several days of waiting .. I think we're owed an explanation about this . Tulips

I had one sale yesterday and the buyer contacted me asking me if the sale had gone through because she was having "glitch" problems ( her words) and couldn't purchase. I said yes it did, but makes you wonder how many just give up. Sales down 39% from last month.

I have to wonder if it's possible that paypal is paying ebay back for kicking them to the curb by making ebay payments "difficult".

or maybe these 'missed' payment sales are initiated through google searches to the new listing page formats (which were being beta tested even back into last summer because i remember the first time i saw the 'new' page format i thought maybe someone had hacked ebay and hijacked the link, which showed a 'this commits you to buy' or some such statement and link; and called ebay to verify. ebay c/s told me that is exactly what happened. now i wonder.

If this problem has been going on for a long time without sellers knowing about it then there are some serious issues here . So many sellers including myself have had multiple watchers on items for weeks and weeks and yet no purchases are actually happening . If potential buyers have been having problems paying then that might explain the sudden drop in sales so many of us have been experiencing in the last six months . Also word of mouth about these glitches may also be playing a role . Buyers simply won't even try and most probably won't take the time out to contact the sellers about the problem ,, they just go elsewhere ,, I know would . We all pay e bay to sell here with our seller fees . However if they won't or can't fix these ongoing problems nor be forthcoming to the sellers they have even existed then like I said there are some serious problems here . I hope that these are just isolated cases and haven't damaged too many businesses ,, but regardless we need some honest answers . Tulips

Nah, Adobe would barf a hex error code more like 0a38fd1c or in many case the shorter obsequious 1d10t code. hehehe. ![]()

Buyers aren't getting any explanations, either:
