Go and read for yourslf. I know that it is early and we might be surprised if it turns out okay, but from EVERYHING one reads, it wil be a gigantic gain for the Bonanza marketplace and the downfall of Ebay. People want and can afford used items. Why buy brand new items at ridiculous store prices, especially for children who immediately outgrow them? We are not Amazon and Ebay can never offer the prime shipping deal Amazon does. I could smell the beginning problem when I heard the Ebay chairman tell Trump that shipping takes 2 days to arrive. Dreamland is what I call it. The important thing to me is if the worst is stated will the store owners be allowed to end their yearly subscriptions without a BIG penalty or will they use it unfairly as a big revenue gain. Good luck to all - the buyers and sellers.

I think people are taking this Drama blog out of context on several levels. Wenig wants people to be able to compete with other websites offering the same things and compete with better prices to win their business. At some point everyone is going to have some BOTTOM LINE on how low they can go and sell things without going under. Look at this simply without DRAAAAAMA. I did not read ANYTHING in that drama blog that said used/refurbished blah blah were being eliminated from the website--Where are people even going with that.

I am hoping something from Ebay will be coming up on the updates to explain this blog in a better context so people know exactly what this blog means. The blog in a dramatic way leaves a lot of questions to be answered to prevent confusion.

@ryanrobyn I got the link from @partial*eclipse (thank you very much) ...
If that kind of thing is being presented to Wall Street then its already in the pipe line for the site. Here's a significant quote from the article, "It's a big gamble for the company, ..." . That's putting it lightly, what Buyer is only going to want to be shown 4 items? This could be the gamble that loses and breaks the house ...
Hopefully Buyers will do their part and enough of them will either complain or simply shop elsewhere, which will drop sales volume like a rockola. This is obviously targeting the new products market and I am just wondering how in the world they will handle collectibles where there is NO new one! Buyers will certainly want MORE than 4 options.
What I did find interesting is that the item chosen as the example is one of the most scammed items on the site ...

Cool - another prediction of eBay's demise. Maybe this one will turn out to be correct, unlike the 10,000 other predictions that have been made here over the years 🙂
eBay has trying to move toward product-based searches for commodity products for years. Anyone who hasn't figured that out from the increased focus on item specifics / UPCs / MPNs / etc. hasn't been paying attention.
But despite this, I sincerely doubt that these product-based searches are going to eliminate the OOAK and collectible market on eBay, or drive it to another site. But if it does - cool! I like lower fees (as long as I get sales).

@ryanrobynwrote:.....it will be a gigantic gain for the Bonanza marketplace and the downfall of Ebay....
I expect if it doesn't work out for eBay as they envision and hope, they'll drop the idea and return to showing most everything, somehow. On the other hand, if it does work out well, the concept should entice more buyers to look here first, and should be expected to grab a big share of those shoppers.
As to being a big boon to Bonanza and a few others... those who found ebay didn't work for them, or work for them anymore, have always been the ones who gravitated to those other sites. Those who have left are the ones who brought some of the other sites to life. The Bonanza of today actually does seem to be a bit better place to sell than it was several years ago, so I think it's like water seeking a level overall. Sellers will go where they can make sales, so stay here or go elsewhere, depending on how the sales go for them.
I expect to sell well here, so don't see me leaving eBay, but I do think perhaps there will be more of us who decide to add a few more sites to our overall marketing strategy. So many of us sell on several different sites already, so easy to gear up or scale down, depending on how current sales are going.

Most posting IDs think its a wonderful idea folks that actually sell here and aren't afraid to post with their selling IDs think its a terrible idea. CEO Wenig says no begging no hand holding... Probably toss in Marcus Da Queensbury rules also before its over..... No spitting no kicking.... I only apply that when fighting with a griz...

Question if anyone knows -
Is this going to affect the way we search - like new in a particular category.
Or am I going to have to do a search in particular category using nos to get 2 or 3 lowest price items to come up.
How will this work in the vintage items - or will that cease to exist.

I'm thinking it would look like this: Four of the best sellers with the best prices on a specific item, also best pics, descriptions, top rated , free shipping, free returns, 30 days or more returns. Thise four in the first page of the search--then you can go wherever you want using some other filter to get the rest in that search.

I see very few people on this thread who say it is a "wonderful idea".
I certainly didn't.
I simply said that eBay's movement toward product-based searches has been underway for quite a while, and also that I do not think - as the the OP suggests - that it will drive the sellers of used items to another site or cause the demise of eBay.
In fact, I just read through this thread again and didn't see a single person who praised it.
