This concept seems to conveniently be ignored by many sellers. The ride was never free - or at least was not intended to be!
Actually I find this very scary how many sellers actually thought [and didn't] report their income if it was under 20K. Those sellers are likely to have some serious problems with IRS moving forward.
This has shocked me too. I admire you folks still trying to offer facts to posters on this subject. I've decided they just don't want to hear it and refuse to believe the truth. The last time I tried to clarify something, the poster threatened me with their lawyer in case I was planning on turning them in to the IRS. 😞
Sad but true. Some just overreact. Usually because they are scared or uninformed or both.
This subject is only going to get worse. When they release the 1099Ks for 2022 in late January the threads will be flooded with a whole lot of sellers that are not aware of the changes yet. It is going to be a difficult time for many sellers and those that try to help them.

Again you are trying to sensationalize this information not present the facts. I can imagine that for some IRS agents it can come to a life threatening situation. It may help you to read some of the links you post to give you a better idea of what IRS is trying to do. These agents are the ones that most average Americans would NEVER deal with.
"The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) is hiring special agents that will be required to “carry a firearm” and “be willing to use deadly force” during possible “dangerous assignments,” according to a job posting on the IRS website.
The special agents will be part of IRS Criminal Investigation Division, described as the service’s “law enforcement branch,” which is designed to combine “accounting skills with law enforcement skills to investigate financial crimes.” "

I want to thank you for providing actual 'facts' on this subject. Due to staffing shortages at the IRS, it took 6 months for them to process our paper tax return. Yes, I do report my business expenses. We had a refund and they had to pay us extra interest because it took them so long to process it. There was no help line to ask questions because they had no staff.
Everyone should take a deep breath and follow the great links you have provided.
Thanks

A little good news for Federal Taxes. IRS yesterday announced that the Standard Deduction for 2023 has been increased.
For me, I can earn an additional $1800 before my income becomes taxable.
