My listing was marked as buyer pays for shipping, however eBay asked for me to pay and I saw online that you do in fact, pay for shipping yourself and would later receive the money the buyer paid back to compensate. But I did not receive the money back. I paid 33.80 and the buyer supposedly paid for shipping.

Yes, I received 277, 21 deducted from 299 due to advertising. The transaction details said that 44 something was deducted from 343 because of shipping, however I bought the label and I didn't receive the money used on my account to buy it back

Again, you are misunderstanding how eBay works. The buyer paid you for the shipping when he paid for his item. You DID receive the money for shipping from the buyer. You then used that money (presumably by buying and paying for the label) to pay for the shipping to the buyer. You do not get that money back at any point in the transaction. The USPS or whatever carrier you used keeps the money as payment for the service they provided.

I'm going to use some fake numbers to demonstrate the concept of how it works, hopefully you'll find it helpful @legitst-0.
Scenario 1:
Sale: $90 + $10 ship, total $100
eBay Fees: $13
You receive: $87
You can use part of that $87 to purchase shipping anywhere off-eBay. Let's assume $10 for ship, so you end up with $77 in the end.
Scenario 2:
Sale: $90 + $10 ship, total $100
eBay Fees: $13
Shipping label purchased through eBay using your pending funds for the payment: $10
You receive: $77
Did you purchase the label through eBay using your pending funds to cover the cost? I'm assuming you did, so scenario 2 would fit the bill.

The buyer paid you for the cost of shipping. You then used that money from the proceeds of the transaction to pay for a shipping label. So, yes--the buyer DID pay for the shipping.

I used my own funds, so it seems that maybe I paid for shipping. Perhaps my listing wasn't set properly

As long as you had a stated Shipping charge on the invoice, then the buyer paid it. You can purchase the label using those pending funds, or you can use your own funds (e.g. from PayPal) to buy the label, but either way, you have been paid by the buyer for the label.

Also, if you have your account to deduct postage from your proceed total, that would show the shipping being deducted from the total you received in your final payout amount. If you set up your shipping charge correctly, that should be a wash.

How old are you??
Way it works:
Item is billed including shipping and tax to the purchaser: they pay that amount:
TOTAL IS FINAL VALE FOR ITEM, plus Tax if any, plus shipping if any, equals what the purchaser pays.
That is the total amount you see before any thing is removed.
From that, you have to pay for shipping, (it was included in the total the purchaser payed).
How you pay for shipping depends: It can come from pending payment or from a different payment source: depending on the preferences and choices you made to pay it with.
Of course you end up with the amount when the payment is completed.
Of course any fees are also taken from the total, as well as the tax. It ain't so cheep to sell on eBay these days.

Did you subtract fees? It is free to list but there are Final Value Fees of 12.9% on the total amount the buyer paid. That includes item, shipping, any sales tax plus .30 transaction fee.

It is too bad some of these comments to the OP are not very friendly. It is clearly a conundrum for the OP so perhaps a little patience vs thinking because it is "so" obvious to those of us who "sell" this should be an easy concept to grasp?
This comes up from time to time on the boards and I can see why a new Seller might be confused as to "how" this works and then you couple this with Managed Payments and how confusing some of that data can be to someone who does not know "where" to find it (thank you to those who gave the OP a link) or if you get there, "how" the transaction data is presented.
It can be confusing as e-Bay takes fees out of the shipping, item sale amount, sales tax applicable, etc - so it might be hard initially to "line-up" what you received and how you perceive it "tracks" to what was in the "listing".
Welcome to the boards. Some great advice on this thread from some seasoned "Sellers". Good luck with your future sales!

This is why I stopped looking at these comments. At this point I don't care much for the money I paid using my account, it appears to me like my bidding wasn't set up properly or I selected the wrong option, but reading these comments felt too toxic to find the actual issue. Thank you for your comment, you made it easy to select a solution lol. Have a wonderful blessed day, I truly appreciate you.
