I noticed that my description for an item was wrong after it was purchased

I noticed that the description of an item I sold was not accurate after it was purchased. I've been trying to contact the buyer to see if they still want it or if they prefer me to cancel and refund. I have not heard back from the buyer and it has to be shipped no later than tomorrow. I am somewhat new to selling on Ebay and have not come across this situation before. I am wondering, if I don't hear from the buyer by tomorrow, should I just cancel it? Any advise is greatly appreciated:)

I would ship it. I would also expect that the buyer might decide to open an "Item not as described" case and demand a refund. If that happens, you will have to refund the buyer after they have sent the item back.  You will bear the cost of shipping in both directions.  If you don't think the item is worth your paying for shipping back to you, you can refund the buyer without requiring a return but they will get to keep the item for free.

You are going to hate this...but ship it out and refund buyer and let them know.

Feedback is feedback...and you never know what a buyer will leave.

You don't sell a lot and that feedback won't get buried...and no telling how this buyer will react.

I had to look at a negative feedback for a year....my lesson learned.

It depends how egregious your error was... you don't ask them to reply, you tell them the problem, then you say "If I haven't heard from you by (and give a reasonable time)", I'm going to... and then decide if you think cancelling or sending is the better default, pending on what's wrong. (Maybe you can share that and we'll tell you what we think)

I also would give the buyer some bonus or discount because they didn't get exactly what they ordered. On low value items I mess up on, I refund in full after I ship their item (which they can have free). On more expensive items I might offer a substantial discount, like 50% on the order total. Sometimes a problem is not great, but is not such a big deal for a much lower price.

Make sure if you give a freebie you ship first and then refund, otherwise you might end up with a defect. When I give the refund, I put "not as described" as the reason for the refund. it doesn't show up as a SNAD defect when I do that, only if the buyer files a SNAD claim (so far that's how it's been).

I actually agree with the sellers above. In fact, when I had an item that was damaged in storage and thus not as described, I did exactly what they recommended. I shipped the item and then refunded in full with an explanation to the buyer.  I didn't get any positive feedback but I also didn't get negative feedback or a deficiency. Best wishes.

I"m having the same problem right now, sold a fishing reel, I always do a quick once over before shipping and the push button broke. I sent an apologist email, with the option if they want a refund for half to use for parts or a full refund. I haven't heard back either but I'd rather take the late shipping hit then pay for shipping there and back. I just hope they understand mistakes happen, so far I've been lucky.

Don't ship.

At worst you get a black mark for not shipping in time.

If you do ship you pay for shipping, pay for return shipping , refund the buyer for the misdescribed item and may get bad feedback.

The Not Shipped situation will mean it will take longer for the Hold on your customer payments to be lifted, if that is still in place.

But that's time, not money.

Or it may mean you don't quite qualify for TRS status for a while, which does have some perks.

I'm here for the money.

Don't ship it an then refund immediately. I did that once and got dinged for an out of stock on the item the next day.
