Is there any recourse for having to refund the money even though the tracking info clearly shows the item shipped and was on its way? Everybody knows the post office backed up, heavily. Any thoughts please.

Unfortunately, what I have found is once I refund, then tracking shows the recipient received it, no return of package and no re-payment. I am out on shipping, cost of merchandise and refund to buyer. Perfect cap to a horrible year....

Has anyone been able file an appeal and win? I have about 6 INR that i had to refund due to the delays in shipping. I was hoping to file an appeal once they were delivered

Had to give 5 INR refunds today. I'm up to 12 refunds so far. I have about 60 orders from Dec 5th - Dec 7th with no updated tracking. Everyday new INR case trickle in from **bleep** off customers. Hard to believe xmas season I will actually be taking a huge loss and making no money. The Post office motto should be " guaranteed on time delivery of it's free courtesy of the merchant".

Well, I must disagree with you on refunding on an INR. I had one filed against me and I did not refund, I was willing to take the hit if ebay got involved but it payed off. The package arrived 16 hours before deadline and I got it dismissed and got my money back. It might not happened like this the next time but hey I don't give up and I will take it all the way.

So as eBay typically does they put the burden and the work on the seller to fill int he blanks. Given eBay has the same ability to pull the tracking information, well at least they should have if their interface was working properly, why do the push the burden back to the seller. What are they doing to earn the fees they are charging. I would have no problem if they extended the EDD by two weeks it would amount to the same thing.
Amazon, in a lot of cases, does deliver overnight but even they are having delays in shipping however the difference is for the items I ordered from Amazon that they knew were going to be late it was Amazon that pro-actively notified me that the items would be arriving late and constantly updated the delivery dates.
It is true Amazon as well as many other retailers utilize USPS for the last mile delivery because they do not have sufficient trucks to handle the deliveries. Neither does FedEx or UPS who also use USPS. While Amazon does not currently have a drone fleet they are working on that service and the primary focus will be the last mile delivery customers.

This seems to be the norm.

Amazon has been emailing buyers whose packages haven't been received by the "will be delivered by date" and telling them they can request a refund - this is to buyers who haven't even inquired about their delayed items. At least ebay's not doing that.

Are you calling eBay and asking them for a 5 day hold on these claims? If the tracking shows that there is movement they can put the claim on hold and again for another 5 days. That is what I have been doing.

This is the dance exactly. I've lost over $750 this way so far. Out of more than a dozen there was one lone offer to pay after receiving the item. I was so shocked I let them off the hook. I understand their frustration, too. I've had packages held up for weeks in one place myself. To add insult to injury, an ebay seller can ship an item, refund the buyer, watch it arrive late (usually within a few days) and not even get so much as positive feedback for this gift, up to $50 each in my case. Not even a positive feedback will you get.

I am well familiar with Amazon's pro-active approach to offering buyers refunds and commend them for that practice. The big difference between Amazon and eBay is Amazon is directly involved in the logistical movement of their products. In contrast eBay has absolutely nothing to do with shipping although they seem to think they do.

After the INR refund I waited till it was delivered, called ebay they credited me the money refunded to buyer.

Holly **bleep** this is something new. I wonder how long eBay will keep paying that out of their own pockets.

They told me they did the same thing a few months back when usps was having issues. This protection is supposed to last until after the holidays. Should be good for anything shipping since Thanksgiving till now. As long as you shipped within your handling time.

I realize others have given you good advice. I had gifts going to my sister and nephew that hung for days with no scan. I finally did a missing mail search on USPS.com and instantly got an email for a scan 50 miles from my sister’s city. The nephew’s took a bit longer but both gifts were delivered before Christmas. I don’t know that the PO has as many problems as they claim. I think they are taking shortcuts and liberties because of the off time for employees demanded by their unions. Amazingly, most mail still moves even with the laziness/incompetence/not caring. I hope you are able to resolve your problem.

It's awful. eBay just took money out of my account for a refund. I shipped immediately & uploaded tracking. They opened a case though I've explained about the delays. They gave me neutral feedback immediately which I had eBay remove. Then they threatened me with negative feedback if I didn't refund. eBay refunded them. We all know USPS is weeks behind. Where is the support?? I have put in a claim to intercept the package. There is a charge for this. They shouldn't get a refund and the item. This will probably happen over and over. Might as well close down for now.
