I like paying for listings only to have end them early

Paying for a minimum of 30 days for GTC listings.  Have to cut them short 5 days because I'm going on vacation with no internet and you know, not too excited having them auto-relist while I'm away and having to pay again.

A message to ebay.  I typically spend $100 a month on purchases via Ebay.  I won't do that now to offset the loss of business.  Not sure how anyone there thinks this was a good idea.

I don't know that it is written, but I had a seller friend once that fell ill suddenly and was hospitalized for a few days.  Of course all her shipments were late going out.  She contacted each buyer when she got home to apologize for the delay and she contacted Ebay with the issues.  Ebay did require medical confirmation that she was hosptialized for the period she claimed.  Once they had that, they worked with the seller to remove late shipment dings.

Ebay isn't the heartless corporation that some might like you to believe.  But they can't just go by the word of another person.  They do require proof.  People can say pretty much anything, that doesn't make it true.

I'm sorry I can't give you anything concrete to hang your hat on regarding this.  Hopefully it is never something you find the need to test out for yourself.

I'd be interested to know where is there no internet access? Are you staying in a rural Chinese opium den?  One of the unofficial requirements to sell on eBay is to have the tools required to access the Internet from different locations when you're not at home.

Even if there is no cellular data service where you're going, it certainly is available within a short distance. It's impossible to be anywhere in the USA that is more a half-hour from a wifi hotspot.

For $70.00 you can get hooked up with mobile internet.

I take it you don't get out into the high mountains or back country?  I do. It's quite easy to be out of range, well out of range for a significant period of time.

OP - I would strongly suggest just putting your store on vacation to hide listings, ending listings you don't want to auto-renew, create an auto-reply saying you're out of town, go on vacation and FORGET about eBay for a while and have fun!

No, it's really not. Plenty of people are "after work and weekend" sellers and it works just fine for them. It may be wise to stay connected if you are trying to grow your business or maintain something on a larger scale, but it's hardly an unofficial requirement. It's rare that something is so urgent it can't be taken care of within a 24 hour period and needs to be addressed immediately.

Yeah, go to small towns up in the mountains, or the desert Southwest.  There are large expanses of the country that have no coverage, and no wifi hot spots.

Verizon brags about how much they cover, but I found out the hard way that they over promise and under perform.

We have seen many sellers in the weekly chat talk about being hospitalized and not able to ship or operate there eBay business.  eBay has replied many times that they can work with sellers in the instances.

Re: I like paying for listings only to have end them early

I'm having to do the same tomorrow, and I am not happy about it. I have two accounts here, neither are stores. On Tuesday I am having major reconstructive hand surgery and have no idea when I will be able to use my hand again to wrap and ship items.

So tomorrow I will end all my listings on both stores, which I think is ridiculous. I am out of my 50 free listings (a number of them eaten up before I was able to end them early), on both accounts and no free promotions.

Who thinks this GTC is a great idea? It stinks if you do not have a paid store and sell collectibles.

Not sure I will come back to eBay after this. To buy or to sell.

To all the folks who decided to attack this poster instead of offer ideas, shame on you.

Offer a hand up, not a fist to the face.

SMH. Sorry OP, I understand your frustration and I wish I had an answer for you 🙂

Don't let the judgers and criticizers get to you. Have a nice vacation!!

This topic was started on April 10th and revived by a different poster yesterday. I think the OP went on vacation already and is over this discussion.

"I'd be interested to know where is there no internet access? Are you staying in a rural Chinese opium den?"  That does not sound  good to me.

If no one wanted your items in 25 days they are not going to want them in 30 days. Just end them and move on and have a good vacation. They were free anyway.

So you lost exactly $0?

Your complaint is that you lost part of the listings that eBay gave you for free?

I hope eBay honors their 100% money back guarantee.

WOW . . . so the "vacation setting" is just the equivalent of an Outlook Express "I'm not in the office" message?  And they'll still allow buyers to buy your items?  Am I understanding this right?

Vacation mode is the only reason I ever considered subscribing to the store model . . . Yikes.

Clearly you miss the point.

Some complaints and or questions do in fact get reasoned responses.

But some posts/complaints are just so silly that they get what they deserve.

Come on, even you could not come up with a helpful answer.

Yes, however store subscribers are also given the ability to hide their listings. This is a separate checkbox within the vacation settings page. Used together they will achieve your goal. Using the vacation setting without the hide your listings option is just an away message.
