I like paying for listings only to have end them early

Paying for a minimum of 30 days for GTC listings.  Have to cut them short 5 days because I'm going on vacation with no internet and you know, not too excited having them auto-relist while I'm away and having to pay again.

A message to ebay.  I typically spend $100 a month on purchases via Ebay.  I won't do that now to offset the loss of business.  Not sure how anyone there thinks this was a good idea.

Wouldn't they just come out of your allotment of free listings that you have with your store level?

If you don't want to end them early, you can just put your store on a Vacation Hold for the period of time that you are gone.  That is a very nice perk of having a store.  Just remember to check the box to hide your listings so that buyer's can't see the listings while you are gone.  It just avoid issues.

GTC listings are here to stay.  So hopefully you will find a way to use them to your advantage.  If you have any questions, please ask.

I agree, the less I sell here, the less I can shop here.

There are no such things as "free listings " . Whether you pay out of your 50 monthly allotted or through a final value fee, you always pay for listings that result in a sell. So no, I dont consider GTC listings I don't want relisted as free when they come out of allotted listings for my store. I'd rather use those listings on other items, not the same item that didn't sell in 30 days.

Well, yeah, but did ebay give you permission to go on vacation?  If not, well then, it is all your own fault.  Smiley Surprised

I suppose that if you think the fee you pay for your store is ONLY for the free listing allotment this would be true.  But the reality of that is NOT the case.  A store has far more value and perks beyond the listing allotment.  There is a lot of value in having a store and it goes beyond the allotment of free listings.

Of course you pay a fee for selling something on the site.  Ebay provided a service in which you use to sell your item.

Then it is your choice to close the listings early.  Ebay is willing and able to allow you to let the listing run the full 30 days.  Each seller can make the choice for themselves if they want to end it sooner than that.

I do understand that GTC doesn't work for everyone and it has really cause significant issues for some sellers.  It is highly likely that it is here to stay.

Vacation setting does NOT "end" items.  They are still active but can't be purchased by anyone if you set your vacation setting not to allow them to.  Or you can have it set to allow them to purchase, but that is rarely a good idea as it will affect your shipping ratings.  You have a few variations on the vacation setting to pay close attention to so that you choose the right options for you.  But the vaca setting does NOT end listings.

Always hated the part where you place it on vacation with a return date but the shipping ratings are still affected.  In my mind it is understood and acceptable that if I buy from someone on vacation that the item wont be shipped until their return.  But I guess it's too hard for eBay to understand that.  😞

@niico_niico- The vacation setting is an away message. Your shipping metrics will be impacted unless you also extend the handling time or you hide your listings so buyers can't make a purchase while you're away.

I thought that it came out of my 50 free listings a month too.  Right now I have 4 items that are about to expire but I just tweak the prices and let them auto-relist. When one sells I add another.

Yes, I found out the hard way last year as I left my store on vacation mode to attend eBay Open.

My point was and still is that if a buyer agrees to buy from a vacationing seller with a return date clearly posted, that the buyer knows and accepts that the item will be shipped after the listed return date. I believe the metrics for such listings should be measured from the vacation return date.

It is a mistake many sellers have made over the years.  But the shipping policy doesn't have an exception for those putting their stores on Vaca WITHOUT hiding their listings.  If you leave your listings available for purchase without extending your handling time, then yes you will get dinged for late shipments.  I'm not sure I understand why you would thing you wouldn't.  But now you know what you need to do to avoid this in the future.
