Hello guys,

I currently explore the market and interested in creating something around Pest Repeller. The world is changing every minute and it might be useful while we all are staying at home and the temperature gets higher so "intruders" are going to influence your day. Something like that:

There could be "yes" or "no" answers only but I would appreciate full replies as it would help me a lot. So the question is, would you be interested in this and is there any point of selling it here on eBay?

Have you done an eBay search to see what you are up against for competition?

A search of "Pest Repeller" produces over 11,000 results.  On the high end individual units sell for $6 with free shipping (after shipping and fees you would be clearing around $2 per unit, not including your cost to purchase the item.)

In quantity, they are bringing $2-3 each (or even less).

So unless this is really a fantastic item and waaaaay better than the ones already being sold here (or somebody paid you to take them off their hands), this doesn't look like a lucrative opportunity to me.

Remember "Shamwow"? It was basically a shammy cloth, but sold a ridiculous amount of them because of an infomercial. "Slap Chop"? Sold millions......

What I'm getting at is......you should look into filming an infomercial. I'm not sure you how you would go about doing it, but there's always the internets. Anywho, you need to do an infomercial. The zanier, the better. Say ridiculous things. Set up a box near an outlet with this puppy plugged in and drop a mouse in there. Let viewers see that little bugger annoyed by this pest repellent.

There’s a big company doing slews of 2 am commercials about those.....

Which, if you research, have shown absolutely no evidence of actually working.

Between those 2 problems, not sure how much demand there would be.

Oh geez, I had no idea they ACTUALLY had infomercials for these.  I just watched one with one of these in the shape of an owl with glowing red eyes.

1. What is the effective range around the unit?  3 feet? 6 feet? 12 feet?

2. So it repels them not kills them right?  I'd rather have something that kills them.

3. How many would be needed for a 2 story home, approximately 1220 sq ft?

4. How long do they last?

5. Are batteries required?

6. While it is non-toxic is it safe for toddlers who might decide to eat it, are there any small parts?

7. Are they sold separately or do they come in a 6 pack?

8. Are they offered in different colors in case customers want to match their decor?

9.  Are them made in China?  If so send 'em back ...

10. Are they made in the USA?  If so I hope you sell them like mad!

Hi, another poster touched on this. Your ad copy should read “Non-toxic” and “Odorless.” Good spelling, punctuation and grammar are important. Someone reading your ad and seeing incorrect usage might think “maybe this product is sloppy, too” or perhaps believe you are an overseas seller and English is a second language. (Some shoppers prefer to buy from domestic sellers.)

Another concern i have is that unbranded items or unknown brand items find it difficult to get a foothold on eBay. It’s just the nature of the platform. Shoppers use keywords to direct them to what they are looking for and with thousands of competing listings, how will your item distinguish itself?

What will drive shoppers to your listing over another’s? Well, price certainly, or location maybe, but there must be specific keywords unique enough to draw in significant business if you find you are not on the first page of Search results. You will have to be a genius at SEO to insure good placement without unique identifiers in your title.

As for whether or not i would buy such a product, yes, i would consider it if I had a pest problem. Wishing you much success and good luck!

There are problems in selling these types of products.  You would need to know which states would allow your pest control product due to environmental regulations.  For example, California has very strict environmental regulations regarding the types of chemicals  and other products that can be sold.  You would need to know the regulations of all states.
