Did you mean:

I had a buyer that I sold something to want to return it because he said the item didnt work.

i had to do a refund for a defective item and i was paid about $77 and i only got 67 because takes there fees. So my question even though I made a refund and I didnt make any money out of this item ebay still gets there percentage of the sale even though the item was returned?

Re: I had a buyer that I sold something to want to return it because he said the item didnt work.

Typically ebay has you refund just the 'amount' that you received and they 'refund' the rest.

But ONLY if a case was opened, item was returned and THEN you performed the refund OR

when the 'case' is opened, you can choose to just 'refund'; and again, it would be for just the amount you receieved.

If you 'just refunded' without being done through the 'refund case', then you refunded all and nothing will ever cover that difference.

If a case has been open for item not as described you get two choices:

return for refund:  usually cost you to pay for the return.

Or let them keep item and refund.

The truth is just how much in this situation are you willing to lose.

That and such is used for scams should be the basis for your choice.

as earlier stated...when you refund through ebay channels, the fees are not charged to your sale....but the refund you see will only be for the amount your payout would have been. Shipping is not refunded, nor is the .30 (not positive on the .30)

Hey @dahac5980. Did the buyer file a return request, did you accept the return request, or did eBay step in and force acceptance of the return? If eBay stepped in and forced it then you have an unresolved case defect and you lose your fees. If you voluntarily accepted the return and refunded without eBay stepping in, then the fees are credited.

That all changed a month or two ago when eBay started issuing credits on partial refunds. You can now "just refund" without a return request and still get a fee credit.

If a return request was opened then it would not be possible for the seller to use the send refund option - they would be forced to go through the return.

They forced me to. They told me my funds were being held  til I refunded the buyer

They made a request and I refunded through there request because I Tawas told my funds were being held til it was resolved. I thought the meant all my funds, for other items as well so I refunded then because thw agent who helped me never told me anything different and completely told me what not to do but that's what I should do. Litterily they told me the exact opposite of how I should of done in this situation

So they buyer doesn't get in any trouble for living? In his messages to me he admits the item wasn't broken after claiming it was to ebay in the beginning.
