I am getting charged listings fees, but it looks like I have used less than 10 listings of my 250?

Hi everyone, Ebay is trying to charge me a .25cent fee for new listings, but it looks like i have many listings left in my store monthly allowance. Does anyone have any thoughts? I thought it was the "automatically relist items" so I went through and unchecked it on a few listings and it is still insistent that I pay the .25cents for any new (or relisted items)....i'm getting rather cranky, especially since it is super difficult to get in touch with ebay. I would appreciate any insight anyone can give! Thanks!

Have you actually listed one and then gone to the invoice to see if it was charged..........usually it is NOT charged.......

It's and ongoing issue they can't seem to get rid of......

Are you listing auction-style in categories other than the following:

  • Antiques
  • Art
  • Clothing, Shoes & Accessories
  • Coins & Paper Money
  • Collectibles
  • Dolls & Bears
  • Entertainment Memorabilia
  • Health & Beauty
  • Jewelry & Watches
  • Pottery & Glass
  • Sports Memorabilia, Fan Shop & Sports Cards
  • Stamps
  • Toys & Hobbies

@blueeyedgoover, sounds to me that perhaps you are trying to list items in categories that aren't included in the 250 free listing offer per Basic Store.  Here's the categories *you can* list in and be able to use your free listing allotment each month:

* You can use your allocation of zero insertion fee listings for your auction-style listings in the following categories:

  • Antiques
  • Art
  • Clothing, Shoes & Accessories
  • Coins & Paper Money
  • Collectibles
  • Dolls & Bears
  • Entertainment Memorabilia
  • Health & Beauty
  • Jewelry & Watches
  • Pottery & Glass
  • Sports Memorabilia, Fan Shop & Sports Cards
  • Stamps
  • Toys & Hobbies

More info about eBay Stores/fees can also be found here:  https://www.ebay.com/help/selling/fees-credits-invoices/store-fees?id=4122

Or, maybe you inadvertently checked an additional feature/upgrade on your listings and that's responsible for the charge.

Or, maybe you are confusing the fact that you get 250 free listings a month -- that may or may not mean you *have* 250 active listings at one time.   For example, every time you list/renew an item that subtracts from your 250 monthly listing allotment.   You may only have 200 "Active" listings showing right at this moment, but because you may have listed some items for a duration shorter than one month and renewed them during the month, each time you renewed, one free listing from your total available so you *may* have used up your 250 already.    For example, list one item for 10 days, renew that three times during the month, and you have used up three of your free listings on just that one item - not one.

To be sure how many free listings you really do have left, go to your Seller Dashboard or Seller Hub Summary and look under "Promotional Offers" and it will tell you how many free listings you actually have left.

If you want to see *why* you are being charged, you should be able to click on the dollar amount it says you will be charged *before* you click "list."   That should explain/show you the reason for the charge.  If it's a feature your inadvertent clicked, just go back up into the listing form and untick that box and the total due shown at the bottom of the page will re-calculate.

Finally, sometimes eBay goes nuts and it will say that you will be charged "X" even though you have free listings left, haven't added any additional optional features, and are posting in a qualified category.  If this happens, go to your invoice after you list and check to see if you were charged.  Most of the time you were not.  eBay calls this a "cosmetic issue."  (Sellers call it a PITA  😉  ).  If you were charged and shouldn't have been, call eBay CS and have them remove the charge.

Hope this helps!

As fern*wood posted you are going to be charged for the Buy it now on that auction  you have listed & all your books you have on auction do not fall under the categories for the allotted store categories for auction
Books have to be fixed price or you pay that 25 cent fee for auction.

Hi Everyone, Thank you for your replies. The two test items I used were in categories that were not part of the "free" listings. How bogus - but at least I now understand that issue. I appreciate everyone's comments and help, you all got me squared away!
