I AM DONE !

I have been selling here on Ebay since 02-03. I have a good seller rating, I am a powerseller, have good feedback. My sales have tanked big time.

I can no longer afford to make investments to sell on this site any longer.

I feel I have tried everything within my power to make this work for me and my household. Store/no store/ single items, lots.  I look for my own items and can't find them due to the new system. As soon as what I have listed ends I will no longer be here. A sad note for me is thiss is something I really enjoyed. I realize other sites such as Etsy are about the same. Good bye to all fellow Ebayers have met some wonderful folks through the years and much luck to all sellers. I mean this I am not bitter, everything to me is a season my season here is over.

In books there are different standards. The mega sellers are not required to provide a photo. This frees them up to dump databases onto the site rather than go listing by listing like the rest of us.

You are of course are not speaking about seller standard ratings.  Actually all sellers have the opportunity to leave things out like UPC where you can say does not apply.  Sellers can use one picture instead of the recommended 3, no description or a well defined description, item specifics or no item specifics.

Your example is just one of many but all of the exclusion come with a price.

Good Luck Selling!

You are right that my example is not about ratings. But your comment "can use one picture instead of the recommended 3" misses the point that mega-sellers are allowed to play by different rules, ie no picture AT ALL. This means it's not a level playing field for small sellers who have to list one by one. Maybe not germaine to this thread, it just annoys the heck out of me.

You have 54 feedbacks left for others within 1 month. I'd LOVE to have that many sales!

Seems like a lot of us are leaving in droves. My inventory is too vast and expensive for me to go just yet.

Hoping the Christmas season will increase sales for all.

All the Best to you!

I dont personally buy anything without a picture but I find it so ironic that people dont add pictures.  In the early days we fought hard to get pictures into our listings - either getting them saved to a CD that we had to get from an actual photo lab or getting standards set so we could upload them ourselves.  We knew even then that pictures were vital to getting the sale.  And we were limited to just ONE - any others we had to pay for each additional.

The other side of that coin is the people who put a BAD picture and nothing else in the description.  Or if they put ANYTHING in the description it isnt info about the item but extensive absurd or unnecessary terms of sale that would make Judge Judy fall asleep.  Spare me the contract law and tell me what I am buying (or not).

Right.  Seller with 850 non-positive f/b in a year... it's not their fault, those are just 850 "bad buyers"?

All sellers do NOT have to meet the same standard ratings, some "special" ones are exempted, and the standards used are pretty much useless in determining quality anyhow.  Feedback is easily misused, but it is also mostly accurate.   A seller with 33 sales and 2 neg.s may not be a bad seller.  Any seller with 850 non-positive f/b is a lousy seller, unless they've sold 400,000 items.

eBay has told us many times, ALL sellers have to meet the same seller standards.  Why is this so hard to believe?  Are you saying eBay is deliberately lying to its user base?

Sellers are also told by eBay that they should receive the Return in the SAME CONDITION IT WAS SHIPPED !!

Yup. Lots of sellers protections are promised, but once you actually speak to them about policies, there's loopholes that are not listed on the policy pages.

Another example is Guaranteed Delivery protections. Ever since the first webinars, they have been saying "If you use the handling time method, you will be protected as long as you ship on time.

In reality, this is only partially true. The part they leave out, is that with current policies, if it does not get there after 3 days they are able to open an INR, and you are NOT protected from INR's, and even if the case was closed in your favor, it still stays on your record, and protections are nullified.

Even if the item is later delivered, you are stuck with defects and the loss of protection.

To add a lil salt on the wound, after forcing you to refund the customer, if the items delivered late, eBay has no further protectoins for seller. The buyers can keep the item AND your money. So now the seller received $0 and lost an item, after being told they would be "protected if the item is not received on time".

This is in addition to the overall dishonest of the promotion of Guaranteed Delivery. See for yourself, and make sure to note the area pointed outhttps://www.screencast.com/t/q9Z8q4q58

Even still, it's a _very_ tough place to sell new toys.  If you go through a distributor, which anybody selling below $50K annually does, you're lucky to get about 15% margin.  Guess where eBay's take sits these days?  And that's really almost the best case scenario.

Half of every case ends up half off at Ollies or Amazon eventually so the portion that's saleable has to be bumped up 50% or more to cover for the garbage.  That's a non-starter in a market that won't even pay the $8 priority mail costs on top of standard retail.  Oh, they'll burn through a $40 tank of gas driving back and forth to empty Walmarts, but shipping must be free because reasons (like there's some sort of prestige to a Walmart bag and receipt).  I don't know about other categories but the numbers don't work for toys.  All that kept me afloat as long as it did was the random import that sold out and skyrocketed but that's like counting on lottery tickets to make ends meet.

What I see more of lately is toy shops buying out competitors at pennies on the dollar.  Sure, if I could source my $20 toys for $1 each, I'd have no problem selling anywhere.  I think this naked vulturism is a really bad sign for the market but PT Barnum said a sucker is born every minute.  I wised up to it and now it's somebody else's turn to fall for it.  For now I'm busting my butt at local shows hoping to clear through as much as possible before the bottom falls out on that too.

I have had the same problem and it is because Ebay keeps coming up with policy changes that do not help the sellers. I am a top rated seller but can not use that any longer because of Ebays ridiculous return policies. They want free returns after 30 or 60 days on used vintage items...I don't think so. The public knows how to screw the sellers by just saying not as described. I am still trying to make it work. I have bee selling since 2005 and about ready to move on too.

Well, you are in excellent company.  My daily list of frustrations here is still growing.

I wouldn't leave, because there's not a lot out there, but yes, try other places, other venues.  Buyers are everywhere, you just have to get your items in front of them.

@steelernation2007

tonight I saw a ... drop seller on here who has 385 neutral and 472 negative feedbacks left over the past 6 months.

Obviously not good, but how many positive did he have? What was his percentage?

A seller with 100 FB and 10 negs is  a terrible seller.(90%)

A seller with 100,000 FB and 100 negs is pretty good (100%).

But when you see that many negs, it is worth reading for a pattern.

Poor quality, slow shipping, poor communication, are problems. But some people don't want to be satisfied or buy a dream rather than reading the description.

Mind you, I would pass that seller by too.

Sorry to see another good seller go because of the changes.  Best regards

Dear  Mr. Lewisburggold:

Good sellers have been leaving for quite some time now because of the changes. The ladies that come to this board complaining about bad sellers will have more of that to look forward to. And then, because of these bad sellers, the good buyers will leave, and all that will be left will be bad sellers and bad buyers. Now whose fault would that be?

Ebay completes more than One Billion transactions daily worldwide.  I think they understand how ecommerce works better than you or I.

Good Luck Selling!

Just because they complete that many transactions does not mean they are all quality ones where the customer is pleased! Just tonight I saw a Chinese/American drop seller on here who has 385 neutral and 472 negative feedbacks left over the past 6 months. Lots of big sellers on here, selling in quantity with horrible service. But Ebay looks the other way and lets them continue. Double standard.

There is no double standard.  All sellers have to meet the same seller standard ratings.  Feedback is not even part of the equation, because it is easily misused.

Good Luck Selling!

Considering large sellers have more reasons to choose for cancelling...I had one cancel for buyer returned item which I didn't they were out of stock, waited until I got the other item I ordered got delivered, and then cancelled for buyer returned once it was I would have cnacelled both if I had known the one was out of stock anyhow being I know they have that as a extra benefit I don't doubt that they get other extra benefits
