How would you proceed with this return?

I talked about this in a earlier post but there have been some new developments.

Buyer buys 4 boxes of chocolate chip macadamia nut cookies.

A month later he opens a return saying i sent him the wrong flavor.

He says i sent him just plain macadamia nut.

I questioned the seller about how many were wrong or what exactly he received.

I asked if h could send me a picture of what he received. 

Of course I get no reply.

So I accept the return.

The return shows 4 of 4 items returned.

Today I received the return.

He sent back only 1 of the 4 boxes.  It's opened and half-eaten.

Besides that it is not the box i sent him. It has a Amazon sticker on it. 

I messaged the buyer again.

This time he responds admitting that he did order some of these cookies from Amazon.

I assured him the box he sent me was not from me. It came from amazon. 

I asked him at this point what he would like me  to do.

He said it would be nice if I sent him a box of chocolate chip macadamia nut or send him his opened box back. (very odd)

How would you proceed at this point?

You are TRS and have 30 day returns. 

Do you have the option to do 50% on the refund?

No but i do have a message trail from him admitting that he only sent 1 box out of the 4 back and that did buy some of these cookies from Amazon and may have been confused about this return.

 

Hopefully this will help me with my appeal.

No, you can just refund 50%, attach a photo with the refund and explain why you are refunding 50%, you can mention that they are owed Zero money, but you can't refund less that, report him. If he doesn't accept the refund, ebay will refund them the other 50% out of ebay' s pocket.

It's wont let me refund 50% or ANY partial refund.

It's all or nothing.

I think because there is a open return on this transaction.

Ahhh, it is because you don't accept returns.   Can't do the 50%.

 

Top Rated Sellers who offer 30-day-or-longer returns can deduct up to 50% from the refund for the lost value of the item that has been returned after it has been used or damaged. We will take care of any issues with the buyer, including removing any negative and neutral feedback, defects, and open cases in service metrics.

Very unfortunate situation, obviously you already know this won’t go well for you. I would make a list of your grievances to the buyer prior to refunding them.  A very simple and concise list of how the transaction transpired listing clearly what was sent, what was claimed, and what was returned. Truly disgusting buyer.

Tell this YAHOO WL of a buyer to CLOSE the return on his side.  HE CAN and should as he has admitted in his emails that he also ordered from Amazon.  

 

Dear WL Buyer:

 

Thank you for responding to my email inquiries for further information regarding your return request.

 

It does appear based on your email responses to us that you have confused our order with an order from Amazon, that was also for cookies.  We do ask that you log into your account and access this return and "close" the return as the item(s) with an issue were not our item(s).  We would ask that you access your account and close out the return today, as this needs to be done very soon.

 

We have alerted e-Bay to the issues and confusion surrounding this return and that the item(s) received by us in the return bear an Amazon sticker/identification and are not the items from our order.  

 

Please email us to confirm that you will be closing the return from your return view today.  You can also have e-Bay call you and a client service individual may be able to assist with this as well.

 

Thank you for your follow-up emails clarifying that the items with an issue were actually ordered from Amazon.

How would you proceed with this return?

Obviously it's one of the Buyers better to block. I would report the Buyer to Ebay, accept the loss of the flaw return, block the Buyer, and move forward. On the other side, it's better if Ebay has a different policy on food products, and better protection for Sellers, but it's looks like they don't.

Well at least i discovered a new ebay scam.

Not new at all.  It has been the same way for years.....you combine different listings in one box for one payment, and there is a complaint about ONE of the items, the whole payment is at stake.  A buyer says that "one of the items wasn't included" they don't get refunded just for that one, the refund is for the whole amount.  Buyers don't have to accept a partial refund. But then you know that, too.

I'm one step ahead of you.

I've been communication with the buyer (nicely).

He does admit that he probably made a mistake.

I'm trying my best to get him to close the return.

I'm fully prepared though if he doesn't.

If he doesn't I am prepared to issue him a full refund before the deadline ... then deal with ebay.

If I bought 4 widgets on Amazon and returned 1 of them,

would Amazon give me a full refund for all 4?

No, they would not.  Only the item being returned.
