I recently got a sale from a brand new user. I have not shipped the item yet. I took a look at the address first and noticed it was going to shall we say a pretty ritzy neighborhood. So I googled the name and area and got a journalist. I have no idea if this person is the one I sold the item to but the item I sold is sometimes used politically. The particular reporter with the same name has written a couple articles(3 I've found so far)about something related to the item. I have been attacked on Ebay before by an animal rights group. That turned out to be quite an organized effort starting on a news website. This latest sale made me wonder if something was going on. I sold the item kind of pricey. Granted anyone living at the address could afford it. Should i trust my gut instincts and try to back out of the sale or roll the dice? I don't sell anything political really. I sell Halloween props. When in doubt, pull out?

I've wanted to conduct such a social experiment to see how well I'd be treated in a higher end department store looking like trash. But I don't have appropriate clothes/make up to play such a part...
I did go into a Hudson's Bay store in Hamilton, Ontario a few years ago (where a lot of poor people in this area live) dressed in my gym wear (which could be mistaken for street walker wear...) The Christian Dior cosmetic counter agent was treating me like I was too poor to spend $70 on a foundation. I only went in person to get the colour right, you can't try it on when it's an online purchase. Anyway I shut her up when I pulled out my gold card to pay for the purchase."
I just have to add my 2 cents to that. Ex BF of mine had just gotten a divorce and his half of the proceeds from a townhome they owned. He decided to buy a Porsche so went to the dealership to test drive one. (Disclaimer, this was the late 70's and he is Mexican). They would NOT let him test drive the cars! Instead of getting mad, he just started pulling out hundred dollar bills from his pockets and asked them to let him know when he had enough to just buy the dang thing.
What I loved the most is that the sales guy got NO commision. It was a great car too, a bright yellow 911.
That's awesome. I'm currently trying to get my floors done and have ended up with a part time sales guy who isn't too interested in replying quickly enough to get these floors put in while I'm on holidays in two weeks. I pointed out to him that I'm doing almost every room in the house (just not all at once), and when his team comes by they can measure every room to have it in my file instead of coming each time I do a new room.
I got a call this morning about an appointment on Tuesday to come and measure, but I returned the call too late today... I'll wait until Tuesday morning and call again. It takes time to get this hardwood ordered and they need to acclimatize it to my house for temperature and humidity before installing it.
We're hurriedly trying to get the room painted including ceiling so it will be ready for the new floor at the end of this month.

even though likely already did whatever you decided... you can cancel the sale but ebay will penalize you likely for it...or at least that potential is there. Can't really speak for the situation as I have no idea what the item was or what the "controversy" would be but if it's going to cause you trouble, maybe not sell that item anymore?
