How to issue partial refund

I shipped a package that was returned because of undeliverable adress and buyer has agreed to a refund minus shipping cost. How do I issue a partial refund I can only find ways to give a full refund?

You can issue a partial thru paypal to recover the shipping cost, or you can cancel the sale thru ebay as "problem with buyer's address" to recover ebay and paypal fees.

There is a better way to handle these types of problems.  If you do a cancellation for the problem with the buyer's address, yes you will get your Ebay FVFs back, but you will NOT be able to issue a partial refund.  If you do this it is all or nothing.

If you want to retain the original shipping there are two things you need to do.  And you MUST do this first step or you will get a ding on your account.

FIRST, send the buyer an email inside of Ebay and just simply and professionally explain you got the package back due to a problem with the address.  You will be refunding them through PP the price of the product but will be withholding the original S&H.  Me polite and professional.

Second, go to PP and issue the partial refund.

Now when you follow this process, Ebay does NOT automatically refund any portion of the FVF.  If you want to recover that, you need to call Ebay to get them to refund you.

The PP fee refund happens when you issue any type of refund through their site.

I get these from time to time.  I write my buyer and notify them that I got the package back.  I give them the option of having me refund them less the original S&H or with an updated address I'm happy to reship the item to them.  I ask them to contact me with which option they prefer.  If they want me to reship, I let them know I'm happy to do that once I receive payment for the S&H on the new shipment.  I invoice them via PP.  Most of the time they ask me to reship.  It works out just fine by invoicing them through PP for the reshipment.  Then I create the shipping label in PP from the new payment.  Works like a charm.

I just have one thing to add, be very careful when you are issuing the refund. Paypal, by default, fills in the entire amount. Make sure you chage this to the partial amount.

 The buyer did not want me to reship for new shipping charge. I could not cancel I think too much time had passed(?).  I went to paypal but could not issue a partial refund. I opened a dispute case with ebay and they ruled in my favor and then was able to issue a partial refund through paypal. Thanks for the replies.

What?  I don't think I understand.  What exactly did you do in Ebay?  Sellers can't open a "dispute" on a transaction?  Maybe it was just your word choice, but please describe exactly what you did.
