How to deal with scammers?

I have an item for sale - local pick up only.  I received two full price offers from two different overseas scammers.  They both had the very same email body.  What is the proper procedure for dealing with them?  Is there a way to report them even though the sale didn't happen (for obvious reasons).  I don't want to get banned from ebay because I didn't accept one of the offers.

I don't think you'll get banned for NOT accepting offers from ineligible buyers. The best you can do, I think, is to block them as buyers. Eventually when you don't respond to their offers, they should give up.

Re: How to deal with scammers?

The good thing about this is you can vet the buyer once they offer, seller's normally do not get a chance to do this with regular listings and IPR.

As stated above - do NOT reply to offer - put on BBL

A seller is under no obligation to accept ANY offer, whether it comes through Contact Seller messaging or Make Offer on the listing, so no chance of you getting in trouble with eBay.

Re: How to deal with scammers?

a.) you don't have to 'accept' any offers

b.) if you mean 'offers' you are talking a 'completed' auction- you ARE supposed to honor whatever it sold for

Local Pickup doesn't work on ebay.

Ebay is a 'shipped' venue and VERY FEW are set up as 'local pick up' and even VERY FEWER buyers 'understand/read' that.

List as shipped and find a shipping cost or best to list locally if you want it locally.

Re: How to deal with scammers?

Pretty smart of you doing local pickup only on that camera which is a high scam item.

Put the suspects on your buyer blocked list.

Be ready for probable other attempts.

There is no requirement for a seller to accept any offer they receive from a buyer.  So don't worry about that.  Just decline the offers and forget about them.

Since you are a newer seller, while unfortunate, you will sometimes get targeted by those with intentions of trying to take advantage of you.  Clearly you are wise to this because you came here.  That was a VERY good move.

Good to read you saw thru the scammers.  So many new seller do not.  As others have suggested, block them & ignore them.  Here's the link to get you started:

Re: How to deal with scammers?

Regarding offers:  A seller can accept, decline, counter or ignore.

Any of those is perfectly okay with eBay.
