I’m a newbie to Ebay. I started by listing 6 unrelated items, listed separately GTC. After more research I think I’d do better listing as auction items, but seem locked in now because it’s GTC, and already renewed into the next 30 day period. Suggestions?

The GTC format is "locked" at the moment that the listing goes live. In order to change the duration and/or format, you must cancel the listing, so you can edit and make changes when you relist.

Can I increase my Buy it Now price if I relist it under auction?

You can change any aspect of the listing when you relist, including prices.
Pay attention to the fees you are being charged when relisting. Placing a Buy It Now price on an auction can result in additional fees being charged.

Good to know, thank you! Such a learning curve trying to sell!

You can increase the Buy it now but it must be 30% higher then the auction start price so you take a chance of 1 bid on an Auction which can wipe out the Buy it now
with the old help pages there was a section that had a few categories that Buy it now remained but sorry can't find it now & don't know if it is still the case

When you add a Buy It Now option to auction listings, buyers can either purchase your item right away at the Buy It Now price, or place a bid. In most categories, the Buy It Now Price has to be at least 30% higher than the auction price.
The Buy It Now price is available only until someone bids on the item or until the reserve price is met.

Isn't a buy it now charge only for sellers with Stores?

Yes, the fee for adding a Buy It Now option on an auction is only for Stores. The OP doesn't have a Store, so adding a BIN option on their auctions will be free.
As mentioned above, there are 4 categories where the BIN option remains available until the bidding reaches 50% of the BIN price, but they are no longer listed in the Help page. IIRC they include Clothing, event tickets, and cell phones.
