I have a few set of tires to sell, but have never shipped them before. Is there a way to setup my listings to calculate an accurate shipping amount since it will be a multi-piece shipment? I am listing the items as buyer pays shipping.

You can enter a weight, dimensions and zip code into the eBay Shipping Calculator to get an estimate.

When you create the listing, you will enter a weight and the dimensions. The calculator will use the buyers zip code to figure out the charge.

The Postal Service kind of exited the larger package business by raising rates on packages over a cubic foot or 22 inches in length. So UPS or FedEx are the best choices for you.

There are some things that, for one reason or another, are not well suited to being sold on eBay. To me, at least, tires are pretty high up on that list and the shipping cost is one of the reasons. Furthermore, if the buyer has a complaint about those tires, the seller will be having to reimburse them in advance or send a prepaid return label if he wants them back.

Yes indeed.

You could still try listing them as Local Pickup Only, though. That does not mean that they could not be "Buyer pays shipping" as you said; it just means that the buyer would have to arrange for collection by his own shipper (after payment), if he's not able to pick up the tires himself.

Addressing this specific question, the answer is no. eBay's system is not set up to calculate shipping on multiple boxes for a single listing. Some of your options:

- List singles (or however many fit in one box) and do a multi-quantity listing.
- List with calculated shipping and add a handling fee that's high enough to cover the second (third, fourth) box.
- Use freight shipping and send them all together in one shipment.
- Offer local pickup only.

Make sure you clearly list the tire manufacture date.

Do not forget the additional handling charges if you are not shipping the tires in a box, I do not think that the ebay shipping calculator can factor that in, but you could add a few pounds.

To avoid surprises I would suggest after you get the listing done using a different account put the tire(s) in your cart and play around with zip codes and see what it is coming up with compared to what it will cost you.

Sellers don't have to charge sales tax or even figure what the sales tax is. eBay charges and remits the sales tax to the state the buyer has their item delivered to .

Do tires even have to be boxed. Can't you just saran wrap them (or whatever that wrap is called) and slap a label on them? That's how I always see them shipped.

No they do not have to be boxed however UPS packages that are not "fully encased in cardboard" are subject to a "special handling fee" I think it is $12.00.

I once sent a heavy item in a taped shut plastic tote with handles and was hit with the "special handling fee"

The next time I shipped in a plastic tote I covered the whole tote with some very thin cardboard and then no more handles but whatever they want.
