The screenshot shows the details of the transaction. How much is the full refund of this item? There were tax, shipping and transaction fees involved. If the seller refunds the full amount paid by the buyer, the seller is losing money on this transaction. Am I looking at this correctly?

Your final value fees (fvf) are credited right away. For example, if you owe the buyer $2000 and you had paid $200 in fvf, $200 of the buyers refund would automatically come from eBay and $1800 would come from your account.
The buyer is saying part of the set was received damaged, correct? If so, you cannot hold back anything for that one damaged piece. The buyer is entitled to a full refund if they sent the set back. If before they send the item back , you had offered a partial refund and they accepted it., then they would keep whatever they received.
You might be able to file for insurance from the carrier but they will likely say that the damage was caused due to poor packaging , not because of the way they handled it.
