How much of a percentage?

What % do you lose on your sales?  Including S/H, my sale was just shy of $32.  Fees came to just shy of $8.  A 25% loss!  So much for the 13% charge we incur.  Complete lose of the exchange rate for me.  Anyone see a higher fee structure in their sales?  Glad I do a lot more with in-person cash sales!  I keep it all.  🙂  Good luck to all.

Re: How much of a percentage?

You are not counting that $5 shipping cost as part of the final value fee, are you?

The reason I ask is because your buyer would have paid you the $5 and you, in turn, would have used that $5 to pay for the shipping.  The shipping cost is not in any way part of the final value fee and shouldn't be considered such.

Re: How much of a percentage?

Personally, as my selling ID, I estimate I will receive 70% of the price I set for BINs or auction starting price.

Meaning that eBay is estimated to retain 30%.
And if eBay retains less, so much the better for me.

It is actually probably quite a bit less. EBay does not "retain" any funds you receive from the buyer or have incorporated into you selling price for things like shipping. That is a selling expense and eBay does not retain it.

well had sale this morning for same amount $32, not a high profit vinyl after fees/shipping/cost of item profit was $6.23 - which is btw round average profit for that item after wholesale off ebay/marketplaces. To add $1.45 of those fees were PL

FVFee should have been in the vicinity of 4.54...how did the fees come to 7.96?

Yeah, I'm not understanding this. I just sold something for $25 with $10.05 shipping and my fees on that sale were $4.81.

Re: How much of a percentage?

I expect a total of cost of around 15%, which is reasonable based on prospective eyeballs.

That is probably about right depending on what the sales tax rate was in the state where the buyer lived. Remember the FVF % is applied to the total cost of the sale (item price + sales tax + shipping + $.30)

Oh, I meant that I understand why my fees were what they were! What I'm not understanding is how OP somehow ended up with nearly twice the amount of fees I paid on a sale that was actually lower in total price.

I wish more sellers would do that.

OVER estimate what it will cost and if it comes out less, they will be pleasantly surprised instead of angry.

Ah, got it. Bad interpretation on my part. I too am at a loss but the OP has not returned to provide any more information. I suspect there are other fees such as promote listing %, subtitle or other charges related to the listing that the OP has not returned to offer insight into. OP is in Canada but did not mention where the item shipped to so there may be an international fee.

Either that or eBay made an error in calculating the fees.

Re: How much of a percentage?

No other information to mention other than I am shipping it within Canada.  No PL.  Nothing extra on my part.  Straight forward sale.  GST of over $0.90.

Was it shipped to a buyer in a state without state sales tax?

Re: How much of a percentage?

This is a daily complaint and is what it is. Those so called "fees" cover a number of things like tax accounting from all over the U.S. etc. for which I do not have to deal with. The "fees" goes against my selling costs on my LLC and should go against yours how every u file your taxes.  Understanding that they seem high and somewhat are, try other platforms and the "fees" will be close to what they are here. I don't like them, but I want to sell merchandise.

A fee is a cost, not a loss.

Re: How much of a percentage?

@dbfolks166mt

Canadians do pay an International Fee of 0.04% on sales to the USA.

And for most Canadian sellers, domestic (Canadian) sales are less than 10% of our total sales.

That my friend is truly a Greek tragedy - And just think what percentage that fee is on just the item's selling price alone! I mean you didnt truly make a $32 sale, what you made was something like a $27 sale with a $5 shipping charge or something similar to those numbers.  That $8 fee is close to 30% right off the top of that $27 selling price - WOW - I dont feel so bad anymore that our fees averaged about 18% of our items price - we believe it was absurd - some people don't, but based on the dwindling number of users, I imagine many are in the same mindset we are - Best of luck to you - Hope the managers of this site do an about face at some point and offer some seller concessions.
