How much longer before eBay wakes up and reverses GTC?? How much damage has to be done??

I've just read a few posts where ebay CS has now been telling people who call to complain about the new GTC mandate and to close or downgrade their stores - that GTC is not a permanent change yet, and ebay is still taking feedback about it.

So if this is true (which there's no way to know), I think its important that all of us who are being affected by this negatively?  Keep posting here about it, and keep calling customer service, etc..

I'm really wondering though how long this is going to have continue before enough is enough?  How many businesses will have to lay people off, how many will actually go out of business on ebay?  How much destruction are they going to allow here??  

Personally for me?  This whole fiasco has been like watching a train wreck happen..I absolutely knew this was  going to kill my business, as soon as it was announced the few months before they made the change official..

Sure enough?  As soon as this "change' hit?  My sales plummeted, and have stayed basically in the toilet...Items that I had that were selling in 2 days without fail??  Now are taking 10 - 20 days to sell, and all the while its just a race to the bottom on price and profits...

I'm sorry but this is insanity all around. 

When a platform implements a sweeping change like this, that actually slows sales velocity to a crawl, while forcing sellers to lose money because they now have to go on a downward spiral in price along with everyone other seller on the site?  You no longer have a healthy, productive marketplace..

When you are forced to use a listing tool duration that was designed SPECIFICALLY for LONG TERM STORE inventory items, where sellers have A TON of one item sku to sell?  To list a one off unique item a seller will never have twice??  You no longer have a healthy, productive marketplace..

When you have THOUSANDS of sellers up in arms about this change, which is actively destroying their sales and businesses? And the platforms response to these sellers who are going crazy because they are going out of business is: "WE feel that this is the best way to increase item exposure, and provide sellers with the greatest sales velocity possible" ..I'm sorry but you no longer have a healthy, productive marketplace..

The bottom line here is that we were all sold a false bill of goods here folks.  GTC does not increase sales "velocity", it DECREASES it, drastically.  If you aren't selling a lot of one item?  You have absolutely ZERO need for GTC, and it was not designed for your items.  That's the bottom line here. 

So this is my 2 cents, and I will continue posting things like this to speak my opinion.  If you and your business and livelihood is being adversely affected by this as well?  I would encourage you to let ebay know too and keep posting..

The only sane thing I have heard here yet in regards to GTC is that they may change it if sellers keep complaining..

Again though we have to wonder how much damage will be done before that happens, if it in fact does happen.

So keep speaking your minds everyone..It seems like it might be the only shot we have to end this GTC nightmare...

So you have a store because you have a large # of items you list and want to save on the listing fees. The force a format change saying all listings will have to be GTC. Then when people complain their answer is give up your store and pay us full price for each listing and you can do a 30 day format. Well their answer that GTC is a better format sounds to be fake reason to support the change, rather it seams like the change was implemented to cause sellers to drop their store subscriptions and pay 2 to 3 times the cost of their old subscription in the format of full price insertion fees.  its kind of like saying we would like to double charge you but can not out right do that so we are going to break the system so that you will chose to do it your self. The dumbest part of this is they are losing final value fees. Final value fees and subscription fees are their main income.

I could not commend you or thank you more for this post..I believe I have thanked and commended you before, for a similar post you replied to in this manner..But I feel the need to do that again..

I could not have said this better myself in any way.  For the sellers who GTC works for?  And has always worked for??  GOD BLESS...GREAT!!!  YOU have lost nothing here, this is NOT YOUR FIGHT...And I will COMPLETELY admit and advocate that GTC??  IS AMAZING for some sellers and their items...It was the best thing since SLICED BREAD when ebay came up with it YEARS AGO?  FOR SOME  SELLERS.

For sellers which it FIT THEIR BUSINESS MODEL.  Others of US??  TRIED GTC (along with ALL the OTHER options we were given to sell our items), and WE quickly realized THEN???  That GTC simply DID NOT work for us, given our business model, our inventory, or items, our need of "fast sale", etc, etc, etc...

For whatever the REASONS??  GTC was not a FIT FOR US..But?  This is what MADE ebay GREAT...

We weren't STUCK WITH THIS SQUARE PEG AND BEING ASKED TO FIT IT INTO THE ROUND HOLE THAT WAS OUR BUSINESS..We had a OPTIONS!!!!!!!!!!!! 

GLORIOUS, WONDERFUL OPTIONS, WHICH HELPED US MAKE SALES

If these OPTIONS, did not help YOU make sales??  NO PROBLEM, YOU WERENT FORCED TO USE THEM!!!!

But EVERYONE HAD A CHOICE as to HOW they wanted to run their BUSINESSES, and to find out?  WHAT WORKED BEST TO GET SALES for THEM.

For close to 25 YEARS??  This worked well for everyone..

micsett-99......I applaud you for speaking your mind and saying what you have to say; because frankly, I wanted to say it also but no longer have the energy.     I am sick of eBay (a scammers paradise) spitting at and kicking their sellers to the curb with every ounce of strength they have.   I am sick of eBay forcing GTC listing on everyone without a choice. It only encourages buyers to watch items but never buy them....but eBay just doesn't get it.   I am sick of eBay recommending auctions with 99 cent start prices. with their "Send to Online Auction" which automatically starts the bid at 99 cents.  I am sick of eBay making defaults in the listing tool which a seller has to continually change.   I am sick of eBay promoting China sellers and their useless garbage that overburdens and overcrowds the listings and always seems to appear first and in my face when I search for something specific even though using the USA only filter option.     I am sick of eBay allowing China sellers to get away with cheap shipping which no USA seller can compete with.   In fact, I am sick of eBay period and tired of their nonsensical **bleep**.   They will never again be what they started out to be years ago and I have been here since 2004.  They are on a slippery slope and they have not reached the bottom yet, but it is coming.  What goes around comes around.  It will be too late when their executive team finally sees the light.....as it will already be pitch black.

It is perfectly clear why GTC is a problem.  It doesn't encourage buyers to actually buy any time soon as they know the listing will most likely be there forever.  There is no rush to make a commitment.   They will put the item on their watch list for a month hoping the price drops.   I have had watchers do that consistently.  Sure, I don't know who the watchers are, but in this case it was most likely the same watchers.   I would end my listing,  relist, and 4 watchers would show up almost instantly again.    I would take the listing down for a day, and relist.  Again, four watchers would show up.  This was on numerous listings of similar items.   This went on for 60 days.  Enough already.    These are not even potential buyers, they are only watchers and that is all they will ever be in my opinion.

This sounds like a reply from an Ebay employee....

If we want a certain time limit on a listing, we should be able to choose that time limit and have it end by itself. 

I am so worried that I'm going to get either a bunch of listing fees or my free listings used up immediately because I forgot to log on and end my listings.

It's like renewing library books online. If I don't renew in time, I get a bunch of fees. I don't want Ebay to be another thing I have to remember to end. Life happens, I have other priorities. What if I go away for a couple days (I rarely ever am on vacation during the week, usually shorter weekend trips) and can't log in? 

There are preventative ways, but I don't understand why we are forced to not have a choice. That irks me SO much.

Because if given the choice, many won't use it. If they don't use it they can't bleed fees from sellers forgetting or becoming to busy, to cancel listings.

It was intended to bring in more revenue, not to do anything to your sales. Just another Ebay "tactic".  They are lost on how to grow sales on Ebay, but they sure do a great job of growing sales everywhere else as they run off their user base over and over again

Same thing for me. Sales have plummeted since GTC, although I think ebay expects me to feel good about it because they keep the "views" on each listing as it automatically relists, so it looks like a lot of people are viewing. I am also annoyed at the notion that if I want to list for 7 days, I can end my listing after 7 days. People who say this don't understand that most sales are made before an item is about to close - the day of or the day before. The GTC policy is a nightmare.

I COMPLETELY AGREE. I Need My 3,5,7,10,30, or GTC CHOICES FOR MY ITEMS. My Family Barely Has the Roof over their Head in the Last Month. SALES TANKED. I Don't Have 100s of Anything ONLY 1. I Pay DEARLY for an Anchor Store For Years Now. This is My Sole Living and Very Depressing to Say I am a Business Owner on Ebay Who Did Quite Well for YEARS. Not Getting Rich But Made a Living. Couldn't Save any money But Was Making it. To Now saying I am a Business Owner on Ebay Have been for Years, But Because I am Self Employed I Cannot Get any Assistance from the County. And Watch My Business Go Down the Toilet Knowing Nothing was My fault and The Business I Built and Made Work I Cannot Help it Right Now because SOME IDIOT Made a Rule without Even Knowing How Real Businesses Run. As the question is how much longer before Ebay...reverses GTC, the answer is eBay does not have to reverse it.  I remember the strikes of years ago when the ability to neg buyers was taken away.  The rule still exists today.

But I understand the need to express feelings and opinions about this; I don't want to rain on anyone's parade.  Ebay has walked back policy in response to feedback before, notably the markdown manager time constraint.

As far as how much damage, that, too, is unknown.

you've sold 101 items in 90 days............26 so far in April........how much are you off?

They are worried about paying fees for 50 (maybe a few less if they sold some items) when the ads renew because the seller was NOT home to end the listings or forgot.  That is my constant nightmare... PEOPLE GO BUY 3-4 BIG CALENDERS.  Take down any painting or photo that you don't like in your home and place a calender.   List a bunch of items to end late at night.  Example... On Friday,  I listed 142 items GTC.  So I counted  29 days and marked my calender with the #142.  I am sure that I will sell a few but I can clearly see when I need to sit down at night and end the listings.       I also marked day 28 (just incase I am busy on day 29.)

It's crucial for everyone to teach a family member how to end your listings in the event that you are ill or incapacited or worse, croak.     The ads will continue forever !      HEADS NEED TO ROLL AT EBAY HEADQUARTERS FOR THE CLOWNS THAT CAME UP WITH THIS ABSURD POLICY AND THE PEOPLE THAT OKAYED IT!   By far,  ebay's dumbest decision.   This is clearly a money grab.
