How many refunds can a seller issue on an order

Hi, I'm an eBay seller.

I would like to ask how many refunds can a seller issue on an eBay order.

The idea is that when the order takes too long to deliver, I want to refund 10 USD as an apology.

But I want to make sure that I can refund more on that order in the future if I choose to do so (e.g: refund the rest of the money in case of lost during transit)

This is very important for me because I always want to refund and settle with buyers before they open cases.

Edit note: I used a wrong english word so I have edited it.

I can confirm that you can refund more than once, up to the total that the buyer paid.

I refunded $14 shipping 5 days ago for an item 'stuck' since 12/18 and told buyer I will refund the $120 paid for the item if it doesn't change anything in the tracking by 12/31; so I refunded again, today, in full. (yes, opened a 'missing mail' report- no change). I will report as 'lost' when it's 21 days past last tracking (Jan 8 or so) and see if I can get any $$ back (GA).

You should be more worried about THIS

WHY does it take too long to ship? You shouldn't list anything you don't already have in your possession. Then you set a specific shipping/handling time. And then never be late.

You are going to be punished by Ebay if you have enough orders which take to long to ship.

Either problems with BBE or Below Standard Seller Level will cost you money or lead to your being blocked from selling

You need to ship on time, not try to bribe buyers because Ebay's actions will occur independently from what the buyer says or does.

Re: How many refunds can a seller issue on an order

I always sell what I have on hand and ship within the promised handling time. But there are many reasons for a late shipment that we could not foreseen.

For example, the canada post strike that happened at the end of this year.

At the end of the day, you cannot completely control the international postal services and processes. Plus, sometimes the buyer complains of the late shipment even when it is still within the shipping timeframe promised and the timeframe allowed by eBay. In most of these cases, I would still offer a partial refund for the customer as an apology because I think that is good customer service.

Anyway, I would like to focus on the original question, how many refunds can a seller issue on an order?

Re: How many refunds can a seller issue on an order

You guys are not understanding my question. This is a voluntary incentive that I want to provide to the buyers as well. For example, even if the customer complains in a month prior to the estimated delivery time, I would still like to offer a partial refund (even if I don't have to).

I want to do this voluntary refunds but want to be sure I can refund more in the future in case bad stuff happen.

Plus, sometimes I do partial refund as a shipping discount when buyers buy multiple items. Imagine if this order got lost in transit later on (worst case scenario), I want to be able to refund the buyer in advance before they open a case.

That is not what your original question posed. You asked "The idea is that when the order takes too long to ship". A reading of that means you got it out the door late.

Now you reference delays in transit. That is something quite different.  A more accurate question would have been "takes too long to be delivered".

I can only understand what I read.

As for the number of refunds, I don't think there is a formal policy on that but in any event that is something eBay would probably have to answer. Not something anyone here would be willing to guess at.

That is a good question.  I take it your are talking about using the pulldown next to a Paid and Shipped Order where you can issue a refund.

How many times can you use that option to issue a refund?

I would like to know as well. If we are patient, someone should eventually be along that knows.

I  beleive you can redund as many times as you like for as much as you like as long as your refunds don't exceed your earnings.

Re: How many refunds can a seller issue on an order

Ah sorry guys for the confusion. English is not my first language and in my country, "shipping", "shipment" and "delivering" mean the same thing. For shipment out the door, we call it "handover" or "picked up".

Again, sorry for the confusion and thanks for answering.

Re: How many refunds can a seller issue on an order

@hapvintage

Shipping on time is shipping within your stated handling time and turning the package over to the carrier for their scan.

Postal strikes can delay a package in transit, but it has nothing to do with how long it took you to ship the item out.

Don't confuse carrier delays with YOUR shipping time / handling time.  Two different things.

FYI the Canadian strike is over now.

IDK why you are offering partial refunds.  It isn't necessary.

As for refunds.  As long as you are doing them in Ebay from the buyer's order, total refunds can NOT exceed what the buyer paid.

Don't know, but I guess you can refund as many times needed as long as there are funds left to refund.

Have a great day.

Just for clarity.  The above is NOT talking about money in the seller's Manage Payment account.  But funds left on the specific transaction being partially refunded.  No matter how many refunds the seller issues on the same purchase, the refunds can not exceed the total amount of the original payment from the buyer.

You can refund until you have no money left to refund.

I've had situations where I refunded a bit on shipping, and then had a reason to refund more later, and that was allowed. If they put a cap on the number of refunds that's something I haven't heard of. I've been able to refund more than once on the same order.

You might want to rethink the $10 discount for late shipments... it sets very unreasonable expectations for the rest of us.

You must speak French, I believe the translated word is livraison.
