How many positive feedbacks do I need?

I just got my first negative feedback EVER and I have been on eBay since 2009!

I have 323 unique transaction feedbacks and the 1 negative feedback took my score of 100% down to 95.5%. How many more positive feedbacks do I need to get to 99.5% positive feedback?

Also, how did you come to the conclusion to get me back to 99.5%? What math did you use?

The positive Feedback percentage is calculated based on the total number of positive and negative Feedback ratings for transactions that ended in the last 12 months, excluding repeat Feedback from the same member for purchases done within the same calendar week (eBay time).
Note: This could mean that the number of ratings used for this calculation is different from the same number shown in the recent ratings table on the left.

Only the past 12 months count.

199 positives plus one neg = 99.5%.

So you'll need at least (199 - 21) = 178, plus whatever number of your existing 21 positives drop off as you accumulate new ones.

Your Neg says the Box the cars came in, was damaged and worthless.

Your listing said the cars were "Mint in decent conditioned box."

(this doesn't mean the USPS box everything was shipped in)

Your response to the neg said that the cars weren't damaged.

Perhaps you can try to get them to Revise the Neg?

After you offer a solution to a problem you seem to have not focussed on?

Your current feedback should be 23/24 = which should be 95.6% except Ebay has trouble with math and truncates to 95.5%.

To get to 99.5 percent you would need 176 sales: (23+176)/ (24+176) but that does not account for any sales that drop off. The negative might drop off before you reach 176 additional sales if you do not increase your sales volume.

I wouldn't worry about that 1 negative though, no big deal really.

Roughly 40% of my buyers leave FB. OP may need a lot more than 176 sales unless every sale is from a buyer who leaves positive FB. I believe you're correct based on sales volume that it's more likely the FB will age off in a year before the OP reaches 99.5%.

Advice to the OP @windiecast - if an item is new but the box is damaged, don't list it as new. List it as new with defect if available, or list it as used. Use the condition box to explain the item is new but the box is damaged. You did state "decent shape" box in your description, but sometimes buyers don't read that info as they should and instead look to condition at the top of the listing page for details. Since this is a collectors' item, the description of New probably threw the buyer off.

Your feedback no longer means anything to eBay.

It does have an effect on future customers, most of whom will look only at the number and not at the FB itself.

But most buyers think 95% is a A or even an A+.

As another poster said, the neg is likely to drop off before you get back up to where you were and all your future positive FB (including buying FB) will give you a tiny boost.

So you can;

• ask the buyer how you can resolve this and have the FB changed
• do a lot of buying-- Christmas is coming
• forget about it and move on.

eBay does not "have trouble with math." Their math is correct.  

As @rock.star pointed out in the first reply here, not all of the OP's 23 positives are counted:  2 of the 23 fall under the policy that eBay only counts one feedback if you have multiple transactions with  a member within one week.  If you mouse-over the "How is feedback percentage calculated?" you can see that that their percntage is 21/22 which is 95.4545, which  has been rounded up to 95.5%

That's correct, but 181/182 = 99.45% which eBay would round up and display as 99.5%.  So the OP needs a total of 181 unique positives, which is (181 - 21 😃 160 additional unique positives (plus replacing any that roll off in the meantime).
