How long should I wait for a buyer to pay for their auction win/s? And after that period of time, what do I do... do I cancel the sale? If I cancel the sale, can the "buyer" (who never paid anyway) still leave me feedback?

You can file an unpaid item dispute (UID) 48 hours after the listing close if no payment is made. Close it out 96 hours later and you will get your fees back. Neither party can leave feedback.
If you cancel it can only be at buyer request, otherwise you get a defect, and feedback is still open.
Have they asked for a cancel? Or are you getting silence? When I get silence I file the UID.
I am in no hurry, so I allow several days for payment (even though I state 48 hours). If I don't hear from a buyer on day three, I send an invoice. If I don't get paid by day four or five, I file the UID. The vast majority of my buyers pay within that three day period. I get maybe four or five NPBs a year, if that many.

Do NOT cancel the transaction, you will get a serious defect, a few of those and Ebay will block you from selling. You can file the unpaid item dispute after two days, then close it in four days to receive your fvf's credit. And block this buyer. If he pays within that six days of receiving your credit, yes, he can leave you a negative feedback..but I wouldnt worry about it, they usually dont pay.

When you file the unpaid item claim, eBay sends the buyer a stern message that strongly encourages them to pay for their item. IIRC, it even mentions the 4-day deadline.
If the buyer still doesn't pay within 4 full days (96 hours) after you file, you'll get the option to give them a nonpayment strike. This closes out the transaction; gets you a credit for your final value fee; and blocks both parties from leaving any feedback. The buyer will no lnoger have the option to pay, so that's when it's safe to send a SCO with no risk of having two paying buyers for one item.
I have had good results from sending an invoice on day 3 with a friendly reminder that their item is packed and ready to ship as soon as it's paid-for, then give another 24 hours before I file the unpaid item claim.

Do not offer second chance until you have closed the uid in four days after filing. Go here to block buyers.

Great info... thank you. Do you file the UID from the original listing? It's been 3 days. I may wait til tomorrow. I'm not in a huge hurry, but it'd be nice to know if they just don't want it (so I could relist or give someone else a second chance offer) ... or maybe they're just busy . Anyway... thanks!
If using Seller Hub, Click on the Overview tab. Look for Orders. Under Orders you will see "Eligible for unpaid item cases"

No, they didn't ask to cancel... just silence. But that brings up something... what if a buyer DOES ask you to cancel the transaction? Do you still get the "defect" ?!?! Just curious ...
There is no penalty for Cancelling due to "buyer requested" just be sure to save the message where the buyer did request. A message goes to the buyer confirming and if they didn't request it they can report you to eBay and you're account can be sanctioned.

so quick question about this... if they get a "stern message" and then DO end up paying... will they leave bad feedback? Like I harassed them for payment?! Ack.
Ebay sends out its own version of a stern message when buyers don't pay. Keep your own messages (if you chose to send them) friendly and professional. I rarely run auctions these days, so no problem with non-payers, but when I used to get them, they either paid up and apologized for being late, or just never paid and disappeared. I never got bad feedback.

without a request from the buyer
