Nothing is preventing you from posting it elsewhere - but should you sell the item and then the item happens to sell here before you end the listing - you will receive a defect to your accout. Depending on how much you sell - this could do damage to your Ebay acct.

You only get a defect IF it sells here first and IF you cancel the sale.

I do this all the time, but only because I have more then 1 of the same Item, In the same condition. I even use the same picture. But if you only have one, and sell it on another site, then come here and see you have bids, your account is in trouble. Never a good Idea if you only have 1 of what you're selling. Good Luck to you.

Wrong - it doesn't have to sell here first. You can sell it on another site and not come back to Ebay until the next day - where overnight it sold or if it has bids on it and you have to cancel the auction. Read the highlighted portion of my first post.

No problem obviously if you have multiples but if one item sells to 2 people at the same time then you run the risk of an out of stock defect.
And didn't another poster come here recently that she had an item on 2 venues and it sold there, and when she cancelled it here abruptly ebay accused her of selling off site and they temporarily blocked her account.

Buyers are getting darned tired of sellers selling things they don't have. I think it's a bad idea.

Should my Item sell on another site, this is NOT an offsite sale because my listing on eBay is still for sale. Don't give eBay any Ideas because they're not to bright to begin with. Good Luck to you.

Chances are extremely thin that your item is going to sell two places at once......before you have time to cancel the second venue unless you list something very hot and rare on two places at once.....so don't do that.....
If you are really worried about your item selling in two places at once and a buyer is interested in your item somewhere other than ebay do this:
Go to your smart phone, end the listing on ebay before you hand over (or mail the item) to your buyer.
Problem solved. You will never receive a defect for out of stock from ebay.
Should you item sell in two different locations simultaneously, you must give the ebay buyer the item or you will get the out of stock defect.

I do it a lot. I sell at a flea market sometimes and I've sold on other sites once or twice. Some of the flea market inventory is OOAK items that are also listed on eBay (as BIN's only not auctions). As soon as one of those items sell I get on my smartphone and end the eBay listing. With other platform listings I end the item after the buyers confirms they are going to meet, if the deal falls through all I have to do is hit the relist button. It is easily doable but you MUST be diligent about it.

None of this applys to me. Should I have 2 sales at the same time (and I have) one sells on another site, the other one sells on eBay. There was no off site transaction, I only had one listed here and eBay got their cut, The other one sold on another site and eBay is SOL on that sale. I have never canceled an eBay listing to sell somewhere else. Some of us know how to roll. Good Luck to you.

Bought something elsewhere (no, not there). Waited and waited for it to ship. Sent the seller a couple of messages there, got no response. On a lark, I decided to search for it a couple of other places -- sort of a unique item. Found it here and that it had sold several days AFTER my purchase there. Some days later, I finally got a reply there from the seller saying they had forgotten all about the listing there.
Don't if that site dings sellers or not.

I'd advise against it unless you have identical multiples of an item, because if it sells on another site first and then it sells here before you remove the listing you will be getting an OOS defect and too many of those will destroy you, it might be fine for a one off item but I would still advise against it.

I don't know either, ?
Any seller who has an item in two places needs to be on top of their game, goes without saying.

Defect?

Nothing prevents a seller from sending a different item and refunding when buyer opens a SNAD.
Nothing prevents a seller from not sending anything and refunding when buyer files an INR.
Glaring holes that eBay knows about but ignores, and disgusted buyers leave the site.
