How long do you wait before posting buyer feedback?

I've just been wondering how long the average seller waits to leave buyer feedback.  Is 3 days after product delivery sufficient? Or is that too small of a window to wait for a buyer to try to initiate a return or refund?

Still not sure I understand the issue.  If you leave positive FB for  a buyer, but he later opens an item not as described case, what difference does it make? You're going to have to refund him when you get the item back, regardless of what kind of FB you left him.

@tobaccocardyahoo

You think it's because they "need validation"?
Or, could it be that some buyers still expect common courtesies in business, like a simple thank you.

Do you say thank you to the cashier at Walmart or the supermarket? I do and they tell me I am one of only a few who do.

The feedback system is unnatural and more FB is left on Ebay than any other internet marketplace.

I get FB on about 30% of my Ebay sales, it as gradually dropped from about 70%.

On sites like Amazon FB is received by sellers for under 10% of their sales. Many receive only 2 or 3%. Buyers are more interested in and leaving product reviews.

I leave no FB for sellers, positive or negative. No good comes of it.

I repeat my opinion that it is a buyer personality defect to desire FB.

@pamela3502

Buyer pays  >>> I leave thank you FB.

Because that's how I want to be treated, whether in a brick & mortar or here on eBay.

I leave auto-feedback as soon as they pay.

But when they return the Dole candy as defective, doesn't that chap your azz a little and wish you did not leave a positive for them?

That would not bother me in the slightest. I don't take feedback personally. It's a business transaction. They purchase, I say thank you. Doesn't matter what happens after that - especially not in a system where you can only leave pos FB.

Automated FB for me means no time spent thinking about it and no time wasted. I spend that saved time listing new items instead, or helping people around here.

I couldn't imagine spending time and mental energy waiting and tracking and checking buyer feedback on every single transaction. That would be insane.

But that's kinda the beauty of eBay - that it supports so many different types of sellers, different volume, different business practices. I can do things one way and you can do things another and it's all good.

I will add: automated feedback can be programmed to only be left after the buyer leaves you pos FB first, as shown in my screenshot upthread. So if you do take FB personally, you can still automate. 😉

Re: How long do you wait before posting buyer feedback?

I leave FB when they leave it & if they don't, I don't.  Exceptions for my 'regulars' some of whom don't leave FB.  I would never dream of checking their accts to see if they've bought before, how often or anything like that, sounds like a huge waste of time to me.  These days, probably 30% of my buyers leave FB, so I also don't like to waste time leaving it, if it's unreciprocated, which is one of the reasons I wait until they leave it.   If they ask me for it, I leave it since it's a big deal to them, but I haven't gotten one of those in many years.

As a buyer, when I get to it, IF I get to it.  I feel bad if I miss the deadline, but my life has been insane for the last 2 years & I've missed the deadline quite a few times.

Since ebay allows buyers to make any comment they "feel" is appropriate about a seller we only leave feedback after a buyer has left + feedback.

Of course. But when buyers have bad intentions, that is what i am speaking of.

Re: How long do you wait before posting buyer feedback?

Again, if a buyer is unsatisfied with the item, that is much different than someone that takes advantage of the eBay policy. Fraud vs. Unsatisfied is not the same. I understand some like to leave feedback automatically, but if a buyer is a bad hombre, leaving positive feedback only makes them look like a legitimate buyer. It really is not that big of a deal (Feedback) and I am surprised that deviant buyers don't bother many sellers that post here. I would say previous posts say differently but to each their own.

Yep, either way, doesn't bother me. With this FB system buyers can only get pos so it does not matter at all. What matters is the reports I file against abusive buyers so eBay can take action - not a "thank you for your purchase" feedback comment.

Same here.

Your recent post made it sound you were frustrated with that defective candy. If you are saying the candy, you sent was defective (gone bad) than i would understand the feedback would be not matter. In that case, the seller sold something not as described. If the buyer sends you back (return) a fake dinosaur egg (rock), that might make me feel a little slighted since the buyer had bad intentions.

If a buyer is "unsatisfied" with his item and leaves you a negative feedback because of it ... do you still leave him a positive feedback?   I'm guessing not.  So a buyer has to be satisfied with his item before you'll leave positive feedback?

Honestly i don't have any issues with feedback but the point for me is that i don't care to leave feedback for those who try to take advantage of buyers. (fraud) I do like what @acgreen suggested and will leave feedback for those who leave me feedback. My customer service is outstanding so i am not concerned at all for the rare buyer who is left unimpressed with their purchase. I personally just don't like giving props to those who burn sellers just to take advantage of the situation. Was not a criticism of what you did as much as a question why it does not matter to some that they promote fraudulent buyers. (promote meaning positive feedback)

When i purchase, i always leave feedback once i get the item. (if item is ok)

Does not matter too much but thought it was an interesting take from some.
