I've just been wondering how long the average seller waits to leave buyer feedback. Is 3 days after product delivery sufficient? Or is that too small of a window to wait for a buyer to try to initiate a return or refund?

Since you can leave ONLY positive feedback for a buyer, why wait? You have 60 days to leave FB. And it's not required. The buyer has 30 days to open a return case or to claim item not received.

I use automated feedback so my buyers received feedback as soon as they pay. No point in waiting around to give it. You also have the option to not give any feedback at all, it's not a requirement.

Buyers have 30 days to open a return, so IMHO, 3 days is not long enough. Feedback is not what it once was. Many buyers skip it nowadays, never leaving you any, and many sellers only leave feedback once it’s given.

I use automatic feedback.

Not to sound snarky, but I guess it depends on what you would be waiting for. I wait for my buyers to leave feedback first, since of course they are really the ones who determine when a transaction is concluded. I would not want to leave Positive feedback for a buyer first, only to then be blindsided by a return or other complaint in reply.
If they don't leave me any feedback at all (and I would guess over 50% of mine do not), then neither will I for them, but I'm okay with that. In rare cases I'll get an actual request for feedback, which I'll give, since it's evidently important to that person.

Agreed. I would rather wait a month or longer to leave feedback for buyers. Most of the item buyers are great but I don't like automatically leaving feedback for someone that eventually has bad intentions. (shenanigans)
To each their own. YMMV

That is a great idea. 👍

I use automated feedback. It's left for the buyer when they pay and I never have to think about it or waste any time with it.

I only and always provide feedback after the buyer provides it.
Too many times I have seen sellers giver buyers "glowing" feedback only to receive a NEG.
Not me.......

I leave it as soon as I ship an item and it's extremely rare that I have a problem customer that I regret doing that for. I use different grades of fb tho. Newbies with a score under 100 I'll just say something like fast payment and we look forward to working with you again. Repeat customers get an upgrade to Good buyer, prompt payment, valued customer, highly recommended. Repeat customers that I have a history of good experiences with I'll leave something saying they are the very best of ebay. This way, it's more personalized than just leaving autofeedback. I'm a cray cray person, what can I say?

I also use automatic FB. FB for buyers must be positive and serves no purpose, since no seller sees it before he has an order, if then.
There are some buyers who need validation, and want FB. No point in delaying. We aim to have happy customers and if FB floats their boat, they can have it.

"Since you can leave ONLY positive feedback for a buyer, why wait?"
Because not all buyers know that. Many believe they can also receive negative feedback. Especially infrequent buyers that have been around for a while.

With the increasing risks of returns, the change in relationship between eBay and Sellers, and changes in seller protections, I purposely wait until prompted by eBay to leave feedback. Even then, I will hold off on leaving feedback on transactions for buyers that have the potential to cause problems. The feedback system is not what it used to be, especially for sellers.

Another vote for automatic feedback -- it only waits for the payment.
