How is October going?

Just checking in. I'm down 44% over the last 30 days.  And down 53% compared to the last year.  Are those numbers about the same for everyone else?

Or is everyone just crushing it?

Great distinction for the community by @wellingtonclassics1

Sales aside...Are your watchers, questions, and offers submitted (not sent by you) increased, decreased or about the same?

Re: How is October going?

Everything has decreased. We sell high priced stuff so we always get questions from buyers wanting more details. I have not even had a question in a week. Sometimes I think maybe our store is not working. We usually pay ebay around $1000 a month in seller fees. As of today we owe them about $50. With no sales we won't have that large seller fee bill, that is one good thing!

Re: How is October going?

We were down a lot the first half of the month. Then the last week things have picked up. Now only down 5% and 4%.

It would be nice if the numbers turned positive. As they should during the holiday buying season.

Re: How is October going?

Brian, you need to sell higher priced items to increase your daily sales.

Re: How is October going?

This month (Today is 25th) I have sold 28 items.  I normally sell between 60 to 90 items a month.  Ebay has done something to the site.  I am in the process of moving my items to Mercari.  I have listed about 30 items over there within the last few days and have 3 sales and way more views over there then here.

Re: How is October going?

In steady decline.  Was selling an item a day - then GTC happened and my sales dropped 25% - they're still falling.  Now I'm down to about two sales a week so now I'm down about 60%.  It's forcing me and other small sellers to use other venues.  Due to this, I'm also buying less on eBay.  It's a viscious cycle thanks to eBay's constantly changing policies and their preference for huge, Chinese junk sellers.  I miss the days when eBay was a great place for small sellers and buyers.  In my opinion, they're slowly killing the golden goose.

Re: How is October going?

You know. I’ve considered as much. I started out on eBay literally listing stuff I found on the streets of Los Angeles. It was so successful I’ve increased my store size 2 times and now pay for the service. 3 years later and now no one buys used magazines or electronics. Doubtful. Everything sales that’s one of the most interesting things about eBay.

Re: How is October going?

My sales this month are much better than they have been for the past several months… that said,  I am no where near the amount of sales that I was last year and the year before. I know this sounds weird, but I have to wonder if the economy is going much better, the wages are coming up, and people are working now more than they were a few years ago, if maybe they felt that we were that ebay was a super discount store and they want to shop retail in a brick and mortar ? I'm probably way off base, but it seemed to work for me ;}

Also, I have noticed  A LOT of sellers in the categories that I sell in, really  selling their items cheap, maybe these things are not the quality mine are or maybe they're going for volume, what ever it is, I see sales for these cheaper items where as mine are still sitting on the shelf. I'm thinking handbags now - I think that the, for me it's hard to sell a handbag that originally cost hundreds of dollars going for $30, it really cheapens that handbag's worth. Of course I've seen this happening in all of the categories I sell in , so ……

Good Luck all, I'm trying to get ready for the Christmas holidays, one thing that would be nice if eBay did a marketing campaign in both magazines and TV  like they did a year or so ago, I think that helped my sales.

Re: How is October going?

Steady for me, but an unusual number of returns.

Could just be the funny side of the numbers game, or it could also be tax related.

Folks tend to make the effort to return stuff perceived to be more costly, and often just shine returning things that weren't too expensive.
