How does the free 30 days return works for you?

How does the free 30 days return works for you? I am asking because Ebay is sending messages to turn my listings with this feature to get more sales.  I am selling from abroad so my fear is that people will start to abuse the system and the shipping returns are extremely expensive. When someone has a defect problem they contact me first and we settle a partial refund.

I'm in the US and I use it. Works fine for me. I don't even remember the last return I had to process.

 

You...selling from abroad....might have a totally different experience.

Same here, 30 Days Free Returns since 2014, 1 return in all that time other that a few returns for SELLER error (which would be free to return anyway).

Because you are selling rare comic books it would be very risky for you to offer ANY returns (free or otherwise).    Customer can get your item and return a piece of junk.

I've offered free returns for several years on domestic sales only. No issues at all; I almost never get returns. Just IMHO, I wouldn't offer free returns for international sales.

I don't offer free returns.

Yes, I know I still have to honor "not as described" returns.

I go through most years without a single return.

This works for me.

We did free 30 day returns for about 2 years and at times, felt like rent-a-center..........so we changed everything to 30 day returns/buyer pays to return.  Have not had 1 return since we switched that.  I like that.....a lot.  

 

Think it really depends on what you sell, where you are selling to, etc.  Good luck with your decision.

Yes, it depends on what you sell.  I sell clothing.  No way will I EVER do free returns.  Too many remorse issues & buyers who don't read/know their measurements.  No way.   But it may work for you.   

 

I would personally NOT do it if my buyers were International. 

 

You could always try an experiment & do it for 3 months or whatever & see how it goes?

I switched to 30 day free returns three weeks ago and have one return. As another poster suggested, I will decide in April if I gained any ground. If you decide to give it a try, your net profit , as opposed to gross volume or percentage of sales, should be the deciding factor. That is assuming you are remaining with e-Bay and not in liquidation mode.

   I sell jewelry, mostly costume, and occasional renters are a  fact of life.  It does keep the numbers down if they have to pay for return shipping.  The savvy ones who NAD their rentals, or pieces whose descriptions they didn't read and pictures they didn't look at, make a seller eat the return no matter what.    It all depends on what you're selling.

I don't offer returns as I primarily sell my preowned vintage collectibles, and other personal items.   As they tend to be heavy and large parcels many of them are quite expensive to ship.  I just didn't want to be responsible for people who were serial returners especially on used items.   However,  if someone wants to return an item I wouldn't refuse. 

 

I only had two return requests in the past year both of which my buyers claimed were items not as described, but were actually remorse returns.  One was a customer claimed INAD because it wasn't new, although it was listed as used.   He didn't read that.  At least eBay partially refunded my return shipping expense since the buyer misused eBay's return policy.  The other was for an electronic  GPS System, which the buyer just didn't know how to use.  At least I resold both items fairly quickly.  If I were selling brand new low cost items I might have considered taking returns, but not free.  The reason I quit selling internationally back in 2008 was because eBay changed their return policy, and decided sellers should pay for return shipping.  No way I wanted to be responsible for that expense.  Last, but not least because most of what I sell is preowned I block buyers who return for bogus reasons or cancel after a sale.
