So I sold my first item. A pair of Sonus Faber speakers.
First thing that put me off is that I was given a large list of potential categories without an exact price for my specific transaction. There were a couple that seemed like they fit. Not specifics.
So I make my listing, accept a bid, ship it out on same day. Do everything by the book and then get hit with a hold??!?? For 30 days? After the buyer received the item and sent me a note thanking me for item, packing and that it works great?
And then after the transaction was done, I actually get to see the price?! 12.5%!???
I could have easily sold this locally without any percentages or holds. **bleep**. Looks like it's my first and last transaction on eBay. Ever. ( P.s. I've been a member over 1 year).
This company sucks! I would recommend everyone to stay away!

It pays for new sellers to do a little reading and learning about what they are getting into before selling here.

Let's hope you have an honest buyer.
It would really suck if they filed an INAD and shipped back a box of rocks and you have to give them a full refund.

@dimlogin0 You got a lot of good replies ... and learned some things that eBay does not explain clearly in one place ... individual sales of over $ 1000 are held for ALL Sellers.
Selling Fees are part of ANY online venue, not knowing what they are up front isn't all eBay's fault ... eBay presents your items domestically AND Internationally if you so choose.
I have sold and shipped to ALL 50 States ... I could never have done that on my own so the fees are worth it AND Sellers need to allow for them in their pricing structure.
I don't recall seeing any posts where your cost for the speakers was stated ... if you paid $ 1000 for them then you lost money ... if they cost you $ 500 then you made money ...

@dimlogin0 I understand completely ...

What I mean is I expect an exact breakdown of what it costs to do a transaction instead of some arbitrary list of cateogies where it isn't 100% clear what my final charge will be. If they have no problem figuring out my category when the sale is over, they should have no problems telling me what the charges are before the sale begins. Anyone that is sitting here and defending eBay here is an idiot. This is clearly a shady approach to hide costs from future customers.
Also I don't appreciate eBay double dipping into shipping charges. This is also a **bleep** move that isn't explained in total charges. As far as holding my funds, again - not clearly explained. If this was all clearly explained then I wouldn't be posting here because I wouldn't have used eBay in the first place.

Until they know the shipping charges and sales tax, they don't know what the final fee's will be.

Obviously, Ebay forgot to use their crystal ball with your transaction.

If you mean charging fees for shipping charges, then, yes... it's another valid charge. If sales tax was charged to your customer, you also paid fees for that amount. FVFs are charged on the Item + s&h + sales tax (where applicable)... then add $.30 per transaction. The funds hold is written in the TOS, too.
Like I said earlier... if you're doing well selling locally, stay there. If you don't need all the eyeballs that eBay offers, you certainly don't need the headaches that eBay provides. Be happy that you learned the lesson before you spent more time on it. The experience is something that can never be taken from you. Good luck to you, however you proceed.

Although I don't believe I am an idiot, I also don't know the Final Value Fee Percentage on "Home Speakers" so I had to look it up (google, 10 seconds and now I know)
Anyway; got the ebay category list where it states 'all items 12.55%' and then showing 10 other categories that HOME SPEAKERS obviously do NOT fall under.
So, in 10 seconds.. I know it's 12.55%
A bit further down the same page it states "....Final Value Fees include: item + shipping + tax.
Therefore, there is NO WAY to give you an exact total since nobody can predict those numbers due to cost of Shipping and Tax collection variations due to location.

Somehow, I dont think with your one sale under your belt, anyone would take your recommendation seriously..just sayin'.

Is this why there are multiple communities created specifically to discuss how much eBay sucks? I can see now how shady this company is. And yes. It does suck. Even in this thread people hint at how eBay regularly takes sides against sellers.

I think most large websites provide open boards for their buyers and sellers. Just keep in mind that what you see here is a drop in the bucket with over 180 million members and 1.5 billion listings..hey people like to vent..like most newbies who are disagreed with, you resort to name calling..same old, same old..every newbie considers himself an Ebay expert..just like you.

Oh, we weren't hinting. Yes, eBay is very buyer-centric. It's really hard to sell here, even if you know how.

We're all idiots and YOU are the smart one. I got it.
