How do you handle buyers that send messages and low ball an offer for a Buy it Now?

I have seen an influx of offers either giving themselves 60% off or better or what really annoys me asking for $2 off on something that is already priced at 9.98 and all the other sets on eBay are $13.-$26? It a cheap wooden Domino set, .. happens to be very good condition and comes with original box and instructions.  I wrote a polite No. and spoke to the condition compared to what is already offered on eBay.. but want to say.. "Really? $3 bucks. Good Grief,  It's cheaper for me to toss it." LOL  If I had the item for a year, I would consider taking it or making an counter offer.  Yeah, I know I sound like an old man at the end of an antique show at packing time. Just wondering how anyone else deals with it.

You can set your offers to automatic decline if amounts below your set point.  Keep in mind there is no set prices in flea-markets.  They vary as the crow flies.

Do not bother answering, dont waste your time, I can only imagine that you have other things to do. For some, eBay is like a flea market where you can haggle the price, which, might be true seeing that you have a best offer on listing, however, if the price is not within your range, don't bother with it. The $3 price, once you add up the time, fees, packing and all that is almost a zero gain item, like you said, might as well toss it. I just let them sit and expire.

If the buyer is interested, they might counter, or at the very least explain why the lowball offer.

I sell mostly by auction and no longer use offers. My starting prices are low like 19.99 for an item I know will sell for 200-300. Inevitably, I would get an offer of  $25. My response back then was no but bid that amount you never know.

I am not sure I would allow offers in the example you gave. at 9.98 how much could really discount. If you are competitively priced, then so be it.  If you have watchers and you want to offer a discount go that route. You can program offers to auto reject below a certain price. The one downside of auto rejects is that is you don't see the offer is made if you want to counter.

If it's really low I usually block them. If it's reasonable, I politely tell them that I'm not accepting offers and that if I change my mind, they'll see it (best offer) appear on the listing.

I never answer them but sometimes I block, sometimes I raise the price by the amount they wanted it lowered but if they get real obnoxious I end the listing and put it in a 'time out'.  If they are super obnoxious I revise the listing to something nowbody would ever buy like used mixmatched lawn mowing shoes or an action figure that was 75% chewed up by a dog.  Have fun with it!  To revise the listing first do 'sell similar' and save it to drafts for later listing.

I am getting the same ridiculous Low ball offers on a daily basis.  I usually ignore them. One guy was so low on the offer that I messaged him back asking if he wanted free gift wrapping.  On a 29.99 item I was selling, I got the "what is your best price?". I replied, 175.99 but that included free shipping.

It's funny because I know when I get get requests for offers on an item then I know mine must be the lowest priced because buyers don't ask for a lower price on the most expensive item they find the lowest priced one and try to get a better price.  Be assured if you get an offer request your price is good.  Sometimes I give an offer 5% lower when I receive a request to do half off and a lot of the time they accept because the price is good.

Ignore them and sometimes, if they repeat the offer, I block them.

I used to be polite and respond.

Don't.  Even once your add to your BBL, they can now email and harrass you for months.

Don't respond.  Use your delete key.

Re: How do you handle buyers that send messages and low ball an offer for a Buy it Now?

Here's the reason why I personally send lowball offers on items I am interested in, but not necessarily "gotta have":

Offer.png

I saved 37.5% off the initial asking price, and this was my first offer, and it was accepted.

As others have said, if you do not want to see these offers you can set each listing so that you only see offers above a certain amount that you WILL accept.

In my opinion, unless a seller simply doesn't know how, there's absolutely zero reason to complain about offers since it's fully in your control. (Unless, however, ebay is still adding offers without the sellers permission to listing, if that is still going on then okay, plenty of reason to be upset. I hope that is not the case.)

PS: It was not clear to me whether OP has offers on his listings or not. If he doesn't have offers and is receiving offfers via messaging instead of through 'best offer' then yeah that can get annoying and you have my sympathies.

Re: How do you handle buyers that send messages and low ball an offer for a Buy it Now?

It doesn’t matter if your listing allows buyers to make an offer or not.  I get unsolicited offers all the time, and I never set my ads up to allow offers.  Usually they are crazy low.  I agree with previous poster, I get offers when my item is already the lowest price.  I generally just respond “No”. I wonder, are there bots that can generate low-ball offers automatically?  I think there are buyers out there that are somehow doing that.  Anybody know.?
