How do I turn off automatic relisting on an auction item that was cancelled?

I recently sold an item via auction. The winning bidder then messaged me and asked me to cancel the sale. I did so and refunded her money. However, when eBay notified me it was cancelled and the refund went through, it told me it was automatically relisting the item for free. It was an auction item, I time my auctions so I can actually be available to watch them end, answer any questions etc. I didn't want something randomly relisted to end at some ridiculous hour etc. There was no option to turn it off or schedule it for later in the listing itself. I can't find any option in settings to turn it off either. What am I missing?

Thank you! That didn't show up on the previous one at all. I just cancelled a non-paying bidder situation, and it finally gave me the 'don't relist' option. But only on the desktop version. The mobile app only would cancel and relist.

It was automatic because you cancelled the auction due to a buyer changing their mind. Ebay allowed you to start it over, most people would be thrilled to get to do it again for free since a buyer ruined the first one. Just cancel the new one and it should be Ok, and not start over. Make sure if there is a bidder to cancel the bid.

@jaime_collectibles I had this happen to me for the same reasons as yourself. I went ahead and let them relist it since it was free, then I turned around and canceled it before anyone bid. I also purposely list my auctions to end at very specific times and the relist did not occur when I need it to. So, while I don't know of an actual trigger to stop this, there is a work around that works just as well. Best of luck to you....

Unless you are getting a lot of Cancellations (which would signal another, greater problem) just be aware and cancel the relist as soon as you can.

This is not going to happen often enough that you need to set up some program to deal with it. Just do it manually. It will be simpler and faster.

@lamber9347

I don't do Auctions, but is there not a button to tick (through the cancellation) to not  automatically relist? 🤔

Just before you verify that you want to cancel a sale, from which you choose on the drop-down menu "buyer asked to cancel the sale" , there is a line below that provides two (2) click options to relist or not to.  The system defaults on relist, just click the opposite one on the right to keep from relisting the item.

@shado-x

Thank you! That answers my earlier question. I knew that the option was available on my (cancelled) BINs.

Not that I've seen anywhere. I have to cancel another sale due to non-payer and my only option is "cancel now and relist for free!" Like maybe I don't want to relist it yet? *sigh*
