I saw this item had "3" bids, but it's by the SAME PERSON? How is that done? It looks like she's preventing others from bidding higher?

It doesn’t effect anyone else bidding.
It just means they can’t figure out their maximum bid/what they want to pay. So they keep worrying and rethinking.
So they bid X and then 2X and then 3X.
Its the same as if they just bid 3X in the first place.

@liawrig.nq8rdwqa3 Why on earth are you running auctions without knowing even the basic way they work?

Everyone -- there are two bidders now! Bidding against each other. Woo-hoo!

Wow -- almost 3 pages of people explaining to a seller how bidding works.

I suggest clicking the links below and reading.
These explain everything you need to know about bidding.
Also, probably wouldn't hurt to do some addition reading.
Best of luck with your sales and have a great day!

This thread reminds me of the movie Blast from the past where Christopher Walken is trying to explain baseball to Brenden Fraser

How is it cheating?
They just can’t decide their maximum they are willing to bid.
I COMPLETELY disagree with the above speculation that this type of indecision bidding scares anyone away.
It’s just a nibble bidder.
This is EXACTLY why people snipe, whether manually or using a service like eSnipe.
Eventually these sillies stop rethinking and that lets a sniper slam in at the last 2 seconds and steal it away. Very exciting if 2 or more snipers slam into each other at the end.
Why would ANYONE put in an early bid, at their best price…. just so an indecisive nibbler could pick pick pick bid - and then chicken out and walk away? Now they just drove the price up for the early max bidder.

That makes no sense. It only signals interest and drives up the price.
Stay stealthy.
Slam in a snipe with 2 seconds to go.

That’s what an EARLY bid does - you put in, say, $30 but only $10 shows.
Someone bids $12 and now Ebay “uses” some of your bid amount and applies it so you are still winning but at $13 now.
Automatic bidding.

"They just can't decide on their maximum they are willing to bid."
OR they HAVE decided on their maximum and have bid that amount, but, since they are the only bidder at that point, their SHOWING bid is the minimum.

A seller who doesn't understand bidding + a buyer who doesn't understand bidding = this thread.
