One of ebay's PITFALLS is the ridiculous BLOCK BUYERS LIST. If I buy from you, only to screw you and you block me, you're only blocking my I.D. you're not blocking my I.P. address. I can them bid or buy through my wife or kid's account & I could still SCREW YOU.
I have over 3 dozen buyers blocked. For all I know they could've purchased from me again under another name or asking someone to buy for them.
Blocking buyers is only a band aid that doesn't really treat the wound. These same buyers are allowed to prosper without repent without issue.
If you've sold on ebay long enough you've heard of sellers being suspended. Can you name a buyer who had their account suspended?
How many buyers have you blocked?

Had a buyer recently harass used profanity all because of my price. Just blocked did it help who knows? Did they do any thing about it who knows? This is a place were we do business. I was very upset. Moving forward not looking back might be leaving this place. Good luck sellers and buyers.

I fear I will soon hit the 5,000 buyer maximum. I've always wondered why do they even have that 5,000 cap... It's all text based, it's not like it takes up that much memory that it'll crash ebay's servers.
So assuming there are approximately 10,000 people interested in what you sell, you've blocked half of them. Smart selling strategy if you ask me.

Actually, it sounds pretty smart to me. I looked and he has 7,719 items listed (wow!) and 54,626 feedback stars (wow!) with only 12 negs in the last year (not too bad) and he's been a member since 2003.

Make sure you don't get a CSR who adheres to the unwritten policy that the seller must prove beyond a reasonable doubt with notarized confession and multiple witnesses that he is trying to purchase maliciously. Because as blues have stated on these boards, it is now OK for a buyer to circumvent a seller's BBL if they really, really want the item.
[Contrary to what the actual written policy says.]
You're absolutely right - I forgot the blues did say that a few months back. Oh well another seller protection bites the dust!
So they say.
Had a guy from a company buy, strip parts and return as snad a $600 piece of equipment. Nice loss. So I blocked. Along comes a new ID from an individual wanting a module for that now gutted piece of equipment. My program threw a flag and on research the person with the new ID owned the company that ripped me off the first time.
That this person went around my block and “really really Really wanted it” REALLY didn’t fly well with me. CS or a blues opinion really means squat in that situation. This guy ain’t getting it.
Makes me wonder how the Blue or the suits here would have proceeded. Somehow I really doubt THEY would have shipped that item and taken the chance of doubling their loss just because the buyer really really wanted it.
Pretty sure I know the answer.

Roughly 70 in 20 years.
Only scammers and real ahos get rewarded with a spot on the list. For whatever that is worth of course.
The last 6 years they also get flagged in my order management software.

I would guess about 50. And I have had buyers circumvent the block by having a family buyer buy it. Life is to short, and when someone comes off as trollish or types a word in all caps I block. After the 2nd question I also look at their feedback left for others to determine if they'll be added to the list.

I hardly ever block anyone unless, like the one I just blocked who returned 3 items in a row. All the items were as described no problems with that at all, great feedback from the buyer, but they are a SERIEL RETURNER, and that is why the block. I told them that they need to contact us and ask questions before they buy so we can serve them better, and help them choose an item that will please them the next time instead of return return and return.

@tamaralea, Wow ... I guess this IS a good place to determine who you want or don't want to block. lol
If you don't mind my asking, in what manner did it change your perspective?

I was blocked because I tried to use an expired coupon code. When it didn't work, I asked the seller to cancel the sale. When another coupon code came out., I tried to use it and realized I was blocked. It made me angry, as I thought the seller was being petty. I sent him a message apologizing for the cancelled sale and asking him to unblock me. I got no response. Then I had to decide if I wanted the product enough to buy from a seller I no longer liked. In this case, I did. It was easy to do. Lesson learned....blocking doesn't really work and can make matters worse.

I feel your pain. I have racked up quite a list myself. But I'll take a band aid over a gushing wound. Imagine if we could'nt block buyers period.

Ohhh, I see. OK, thanks for the explanation.
Thinking about it now, I purchased an item from a seller and was very happy. It was her last one. I left positive feedback. I messaged her to ask if she thought she might get more in and she said yes. I checked every day for weeks and then finally saw she listed it but this time for a lot more $. I sent her a message and asked why the price went up so much. No answer. Like you, I wasn't happy but figured I'd buy it from her anyway and when I tried I got the message that I was blocked. I did a search for the same item and found someone else who had it listed for the same price hers was initially. I was so happy I bought 2 and over the years became very friendly with the 2nd seller who got lots of sales and great feedback from me. I guess sometimes blocking works for the better.
