One of ebay's PITFALLS is the ridiculous BLOCK BUYERS LIST. If I buy from you, only to screw you and you block me, you're only blocking my I.D. you're not blocking my I.P. address. I can them bid or buy through my wife or kid's account & I could still SCREW YOU.
I have over 3 dozen buyers blocked. For all I know they could've purchased from me again under another name or asking someone to buy for them.
Blocking buyers is only a band aid that doesn't really treat the wound. These same buyers are allowed to prosper without repent without issue.
If you've sold on ebay long enough you've heard of sellers being suspended. Can you name a buyer who had their account suspended?
How many buyers have you blocked?

From what I have read about the past, if you blocked a buyer and he tried to circumvent it you could report them.
No clue why ebay changed that.

they can't buy from you again under their ebay I.D. & their (real) name/address but that can't stop them from buying through others. it's like saying we have stopped you from coming into our food store, meanwhile my friend has never had a problem & buys for me.

They could not create another account to purchase from you.
Also I believe ebay could connect isp addresses so it would mostly likely stop someone in the same house from doing so.
But if they ask some friend to buy it for them, then obviously there would be no way to prove it.

I've got about 18 blocked bidders, small then it was as I removed the @wayland_corporation accounts from people no longer active on e-bay. Never had anyone circumvent my block list. I bet if I sold cellphones or other scam magnets maybe..
Banning IPs would not work. People don't have static IPs, their IPs change all the time with residential services. Plus all kinds of people use VPNs.

Someone can only get by my block if they use a different name and address to ship to. Even then, I have a few ways to catch them should I have some suspicions. I wrote an Access program that I log all my business activity into. It will throw a flag up if the name matches one I have blocked, address, city and even zip. If a new, low feedback buyer buys from me and I get a flag I look further into that person.
That said, I don’t block on a whim. If your on my list there’s a darn good reason. I also have buyers blocked that I had issues with elsewhere. I think in 20+ years I have maybe 40 people on it.

I know a few may want to continue doing business with a bad seller. If I where to attempt to purchase from the seller, not realizing I had already had a bad experience with them, I would be thrilled to found out I was blocked. Another reason why Ebay should also have a blocked seller list.

I have blocked a grand total of about 5 people over the years (maybe 6). Three of the IDs are the same person scamming under different IDs.
I only block known scammers. I generally don't block buyers, even unreasonable annoying people, I deal with them.

Of course they can, it's about as easy as falling.

I was about to say that a blocked buyer can create other accts and buy from you without a problem. We've seen many cases of this on the boards. Only if the seller realizes it and calls CS and alerts them to the buyer trying to circumvent the block will the seller be protected. Now on the other hand - Ebay has in the past banned IP addresses for bad sellers who tried to circumvent a suspension. Whether this still goes on or not - I'm not sure as there were whole dormitories getting their privileges suspended because of one student who was a bad seller and tried to circumvent their suspension

I have zero blocked buyers. Never have put a buyer on the blocked list, this is my seventh year selling here. I did think about putting one buyer on it my first or second year of selling. They made quite a few unreasonable requests over the course of several messages, after I replied no to all of their requests, they bought one item just so they could leave me a negative. eBay removed the their feedback. I don't think this buyer ever purchased from me again, unless of course, they changed their user ID...after all these years, I still remember that ID.

What would an IP address do for you? Is it the IP address of my office where 200 other people also work? Is it the IP address of the Starbucks I am at buying stuff? Or the library? Or just on my phone, which gets a different IP constantly? Or my home internet that will get a new IP if I power cycle the modem.
People who talk about IP bans don't really know what they are talking about

" I'm not sure as there were whole dormitories getting their privileges suspended because of one student who was a bad seller"
Exactly why IP bans are a stupid idea and don't work.

I've blocked 2 buyers,
and approx 30,000 sellers have blocked me.
