One of ebay's PITFALLS is the ridiculous BLOCK BUYERS LIST. If I buy from you, only to screw you and you block me, you're only blocking my I.D. you're not blocking my I.P. address. I can them bid or buy through my wife or kid's account & I could still SCREW YOU.
I have over 3 dozen buyers blocked. For all I know they could've purchased from me again under another name or asking someone to buy for them.
Blocking buyers is only a band aid that doesn't really treat the wound. These same buyers are allowed to prosper without repent without issue.
If you've sold on ebay long enough you've heard of sellers being suspended. Can you name a buyer who had their account suspended?
How many buyers have you blocked?

I don't know how many I have blocked, I'm not going to sit and count lol
I can say that the vast majority are deleted IDs - guess I should go and remove them sometime. I've never actually had to block a buyer, but I do block people who show their tail or act a fool here in the forum. Gotta be proactive, 'ya know.
I'm sure my ID is on quite a few best buddy lists lol

An IP block is not practical because IP addresses are not static.
I think Xfinity and Comcast will recycle your IP address if you unplug you model for a few hours (and likely the new one was assigned to someone else previously).
So a buyer who is intent on causing mayhem will recycle his IP. Or just go to Starbucks or the library.

There are 3 names on mine.
My block list is for the truly egregious. Luckily, over the last 10 years, i’ve only needed to use it those three times because it is rare i encounter a bad buyer.
Sometimes I fear sellers are too quick to block. But to each his own.

I add 2-3 a day everyday.

Make sure you don't get a CSR who adheres to the unwritten policy that the seller must prove beyond a reasonable doubt with notarized confession and multiple witnesses that he is trying to purchase maliciously. Because as blues have stated on these boards, it is now OK for a buyer to circumvent a seller's BBL if they really, really want the item.
[Contrary to what the actual written policy says.]

I have probably blocked at least 40 buyers. Many are ids I got on this forum. That said, I recently got blocked. That changed my whole perspective.

TONS!
I fear I will soon hit the 5,000 buyer maximum. I've always wondered why do they even have that 5,000 cap... It's all text based, it's not like it takes up that much memory that it'll crash ebay's servers.

Every once and a while I got through and kick out all the ones that say gobbledygook@deleted.
Frees up some space to add my new best buds

I only block known scammers. I generally don't block buyers, even unreasonable annoying people, I deal with them.
I second that. My blocked list is generally reserved for trouble makers. (Having a problem with a sale doesn't constitute a buyer as a trouble maker, stuff happens...) But some of the things that have happened have been ridiculous.
Cheers, C.

You're absolutely right - I forgot the blues did say that a few months back. Oh well another seller protection bites the dust!

I am referring to the past not the present.
01-18-2019 01:50 PM
As I stated above, I was talking about the past when ebay enforced it.
I do know that now buyers can create another account and ebay will say well as long as they are not doing you any damage.
01-18-2019 01:52 PM
Yes, and that is why ebay needs to differentiate between a home and a dormitory or apartment house.

I can say that I have honestly blocked only about a handful of people - buyers or sellers - but when I do I'm not screwing around. I don't block because they asked questions or made low offers/bids. I block because they sold items that were flat out SNADS and it took an act of Congress to get a refund or the buyer was a high stress nightmare who really shouldn't be buying online (NINETEEN NEGS left out of TWENTY FOUR BUYS? Nobody is that unlucky!)
