Hooked!

Just bamboozled out of an Apple Watch. The perp spoofed the PayPal email telling me payment was received, and I wasn't quick enough with the signs to catch it. (Actually, I did, thirty minutes after it was delivered, and thought I'd saved it. Refused, tracking said, and it was returned to sender. Then the very next day, 24 hours after I had informed the Oregon PO it was mail fraud, they delivered it!)

i am am trying to see how it is to notify the officials of eBay. No luck so far. I have a claim with the PO IG, referred to their criminal investigation unit, but I think we're just dancing. If so, I guess I won't be seeing you nice folk again ...

So, where is the accountablility of the seller?  Ebay should baby sit all it's sellers to make certain they're not all ripped off?  Ridiculous.

I totally understand your position, but they're so cute when they're new and shiny.  It's just hard to say... tough luck dude or dudette, next time don't be such a dolt.

"I think if you do print the label, a minor banner appears somewhere along the way which suggests it isn't paid yet, but seller has to be watching for the banner, which isn't usually the case."

The banner at the top of the shipping label page is in LARGE RED LETTERS, pretty hard to miss. . .

I'm hardly a newbie.  I do, however, take responsibility for my own actions.  🙂

I'm really sorry too.  I was making light of it, but it is true.  New sellers have no idea what they are doing.  In fact they are so clueless that they don't even know what they don't know.  I've been selling for 9 years and believe me, I've made some big mistakes.  But when I think about all the things I've learned over the years, I can't imagine how new sellers cram all that "stuff" into their heads before they get shafted.  There are a lot of really really great people out there, but I never would have been able to imagine how corrupt some people can be.

I started in 1999 and learned along the way.

Not sure I could come in new today and not be overwhelmed.

Re: Hooked!

Agreed - I started in '03, did do the reading up, but still made mistakes. One of which entering info in a spoof email, and somehow in a matter of hours I was able to move from the USA to Germany 🙂 That is what taught me and I was lucky it cost me nothing.

It was then that I found the boards - I feel bad for the OP

Re: Hooked!

Part of the problem was that I was lulled by experiences with Amazon, which screens sellers who are motivated to continue the partnership. They go way beyond to keep high ratings. Whereas eBay is a flea market. Whereas I'm old and not smart.

But at the very least Ebay should be able to identify bidders for the police, I should think.

Not sure if this is the case anymore as this is a few years old.

Thats what you will get if you have an international buyer who hasnt paid yet. You cant print the label until the item shows as paid.

For domestic shipments inside the US you can print the label if you want - but there will be a big orange banner across the top saying that the item has not been paid for yet.

I don't think eBay should babysit sellers, but some of the warnings mentioned should be a little more obvious than they are.  And more importantly unless the seller buys postage over the counter, printing a label should be blocked.  Period.

But why should eBay care?  It's not their money.
