Did you mean:

Hooked!

Just bamboozled out of an Apple Watch. The perp spoofed the PayPal email telling me payment was received, and I wasn't quick enough with the signs to catch it. (Actually, I did, thirty minutes after it was delivered, and thought I'd saved it. Refused, tracking said, and it was returned to sender. Then the very next day, 24 hours after I had informed the Oregon PO it was mail fraud, they delivered it!)

i am am trying to see how it is to notify the officials of eBay. No luck so far. I have a claim with the PO IG, referred to their criminal investigation unit, but I think we're just dancing. If so, I guess I won't be seeing you nice folk again ...

I hope you are not blaming eBay for your failure to verify the payment.

It is pure laziness or some other negligence which prevents ebay from making this scam far harder to perpetrate.

How can ebay prevent naive buyers from not giving out their email or force them to always check their paypal account to see if the money is really there.

That is why they have the ebay pages and these boards where newbies need to read about the rules and the pitfalls  before they start selling.

Never rely on email notifications for anything. Always log into PayPal directly and independently (not from a link in an email) and verify that the money is actually in your account. That should be rule #1 for every seller.

Not understanding.  Are you saying the buyer refused the item and it was marked as being returned to you.

Why was another delivery attempted?  And why did they accept it the second time and not the first?

The classic scam in all ways.

This gun is fired at sellers at least 1,000 times per day.

Just bamboozled out of an Apple Watch.

It is nearly impossible to sell an apple watch without using Immediate Payment Required.

Especially as a zero.

Ebay should make this clear to newbie sellers.

If seller ignores this advice, ebay should make it very difficult to ship before being paid.

How did you print a shipping label?

How did you print a shipping label?

It's easy. All seller has to do is form the intent to print the label, and ebay makes it easy from there.

In fact, there's a long, long running issue where if seller sends an invoice, the item goes to "print shipping label" state in the sold items list.

I think if you do print the label, a minor banner appears somewhere along the way which suggests it isn't paid yet, but seller has to be watching for the banner, which isn't usually the case.

Not sure if this is the case anymore as this is a few years old.

BUIT a lot of new sellers don't use ebay shipping labels. They send it from the PO.

I don't think you will ever be able to anticipate every way a scammer can "get" you.

If a buyer handed a brick and mortar seller a white envelope and told him it contained $100, that seller would not complete the sale until he opened the envelope and made sure the money was really inside.

If he didn't ... that would be an example of pure laziness.

I fail to see how a spoof email is any different, except that the "envelope" is a transaction on the PayPal site.

So, where is the accountablility of the seller?  Ebay should baby sit all it's sellers to make certain they're not all ripped off?  Ridiculous.
